In Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, each chapter offers players a different experience. After completing Chapter Three, you finally reunite with your voidship, but of course, the responsibilities of the Rogue Trader continue unabated. During warp travel, your companions come to you one after another, making requests.

However, unlike the majority, Seneschal Abelard, who has never made a request until Chapter Four, finally approaches you and asks for a favor. Unlike other missions, here you'll need to do a bit more detective work than fighting. If you're ready, let's fulfill Abelard's request and begin the Blood Ties quest.

How To Acquire The Blood Ties Quest

After completing Chapter Three and escaping from Commorragh, you will first arrive at the Forests of Janus, and then you will be able to return to your voidship.

At this stage, you will discuss the crew members on the ship's bridge.

Then, you will return to your quarters, where the Vox Master and High Factotum Janris Danrok will inform you about the events that occurred in your absence and assign you new missions.

After this pair leaves, Abelard will come to you and make a personal request. The mission involves Abelard's family, and the Werserians are accused of betraying House von Valancius.

Firstly, ask Abelard how this could be possible. He will normally say that the events do not concern you, but the Werserians are under the personal protection of the Rogue Trader. At this point, choose this option:

  • "Tell Zarchary Weisz to send my message to Dargonus saying I will personally take part in the investigation."

This way, the Blood Ties quest will begin, and you will need to go to Dargonus.

Reach Planet Dargonus

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

You start Chapter Four in the Telikos Epsilon system. First, you need to reach the Mundus Valancius system. Remember that Mundus Valancius lies to your north. You can get there by the following route:

  • Silence of Mer-Segrit
  • Langrenn’s Belt
  • Mu-Rho 79
  • Mundus Nullius
  • Mundus Valancius

After arriving at Mundus Valancius, proceed to enter the planet Dargonus. Upon entering the Von Valancius palace, you will encounter a tumultuous scene with servitors on the ground, and one of the wardens will inform you that the Governor will handle the situation.

When you inquire about what happened, they will tell you there was an assassination attempt and that the wardens prevented it. Here are your two options:

  • "Where is the court chancellor, Clementia Weserian?"
  • "Why is the governor not here to greet the Rogue Trader?"

When you inquire about the Governor, you will learn that he intends to put House Werserian on trial. They will also mention that Clementia is with the other Weserians. At this point, you have no choice but to leave this area.

If you examine the bodies with an Awareness skill check , you will find a bloody letter on one of them. From the letter, it appears that the deceased were intended to appear noble before their deaths:

“…eful and discreet. Keep away from the lords and ladies. You must look like a noble to the servants and wardens. Do not engage in conversation with anyone. Your task is avoid exposing yourself ahead of time and let the Werserians get away while the wardens are busy guardian Rogue Trader.”

So, if you examine the letter, things get a bit more complicated.

Enter The Palace And Speak With The Governor

After entering the palace and proceeding toward the throne room, you will see that the crowd wishes to speak with Clementia, but the Wardens are not allowing them due to the Governor's orders.

Upon entering the throne room, Governor Urbend Drivestem will greet you. Here are the dialogue options you can choose:

  • "What are the charges against House Weserian?"
  • "What happened on Dargonus in my absence?"
  • "Why are there dead bodies at the entrance to my palace?"
  • "Drivestem, you aren’t accusing one of Dargonus’s leading noble houses of treason without airtight evidence, are you?"
  • (Speak to the heads of houses present) "Do you support the governor’s accusations?"
  • "Your words alone are not enough to make me doubt the loyalty of House Weserian. As the Rogue Trader, I order you to release them from custody once."
  • "Sabotaging logistics, riots, conspiracy… The case appears to be flimsy. I wish to learn more before I make my final decision."
  • "I do not have time to deal with this. Drivestem, I accept the findings of your investigation and find the Weserians guilty."

If you do not wish to play detective, you can directly find the Weserians guilty. However, this will lead to a public execution and cancel the Blood Ties quest. If you intend to proceed with the quest, avoid this option.

If you listen to the accusations against House Werserian, you will also have the option to hear the events from Clementia's perspective. She will express her willingness to help with the events that occurred while you were absent, but will mention that intrigues have targeted the Werserians.

By asking for evidence from the governor, you can gain further insight into her perspective, and you may see his son presented as a witness.

When you ask the nobles whether they support the accusations, the Gaprak and Sauerback families will say they support the governor. Even if you request the release of the Werserians, the governor will insist on punishing the culprits.

He will mention the arrival of a representative from the Adeptus Arbites and express a positive view of resolving the situation independently. This leaves you with the only remaining option:

  • “Sabotaging logistics, riots, conspiracy… The case appears to be flimsy. I wish to learn more before I make my final decision.”

Here, you will be free to explore again and will need to find the culprit, thus trying to uncover the truth of the matter. There are some people you can talk to:

  • House Gaprak
  • House Sauerback
  • House Werserian
  • Governor Drivestem

Listen To The Thoughts Of All Nobles

First, talk to the Gapraks, located in the southwest of the throne room. Exhaust all dialogues with Toriana Gaprak.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

The Sauerback family is located northwest and is to the Gapraks. Here, you can annoy Macharius Sauerback by kissing his wife Regina's hand.

After a Persuasion skill check, you will receive a flirtatious glance from the woman's eyes and gain 11 experience. Macharius will become furious and will tell his wife to stay away from you.

With a Lore(Imperium) skill check, you can observe Macharius looking with disgust at the Xenos in your crew, gaining another 11 experience.

Then, with a Coercion skill check, you can confront him about this and ask if your companions distress him. Afterward, you can accuse Macharius and his family of heresy due to his hatred.

In the northeast, there is the community of House Werserian. You can listen to all of their dialogue to understand the events.

Afterward, speak with the Drivestem family located in the southeast of the room. You can talk to the Governor's son, Cornelius, and while doing so, Heinrix will keep an eye on him if he's with you.

You can intimidate Cornelius with a Coercion skill check or use Heinrix's presence to achieve the same goal.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

After succeeding, Cornelius will admit that everything was due to his own mistake. A logistical problem arose because of the numbers that he miscalculated. Then, he'll reveal that a mysterious figure, whom he hasn't seen, instructed him to blame the Werserians.

After learning that he corresponded with this mysterious person via letters, it's up to you whether to have Cornelius executed or spare him.

Option One: Have House Sauerback Executed

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

Then, you can gather everyone and demonstrate the innocence of the Werserians. Right after, you'll declare the House Sauerback culpable.

owever, your motive for their culpability will appear somewhat personal, which might not fully satisfy you. Consequently, the House Sauerback will be condemned and executed.

Following that, you'll need to converse with Abelard on the voidship.

Option Two: Have House Gaprak Executed

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

If you wish to delve deeper into the events, exit the throne room, and you'll find Gallen Gaprak on the left side of the stairs on the lower floor.

Initially appearing to have ended his own life, upon further examination through a rigorous Awareness skill check, you'll notice a small hole in his throat. However, it's unclear who killed him.

When you search his pockets, you'll find a short note.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

At this stage, you can request the Governor to gather everyone. This will open an option for you to find the House Gaprak guilty, and you can have the entire family executed.

Afterward, you'll need to speak with Abelard on the voidship's bridge. But if this still doesn't satisfy you, you have the option to further investigate the events.

Option Three: Find The Mastermind Behind The Events

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

You can ask the Gaprak family about the deceased person. After learning about the deceased, you'll discover that he was merely a puppet, and you'll need to find the mastermind behind it.

The Werserians are unaware of this situation, and the Sauerbacks will claim they know nothing about the note found on the deceased person.

When you return to the House Drivestem, new dialogue options will become available. You can ask them about the deceased person. Then, you can inquire whether Macharius Sauerback was seen before your arrival today.

One of the aristocrats will claim to have seen him, sitting on a bench inside the palace with a stranger.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

You can ask this aristocrat to lead you there. Upon inspecting the bench, you'll find a wine bottle belonging to House Sauerback after passing an Awareness skill check.

At this point, there's nothing more you can do. Ask the Governor to gather everyone and announce that you will deliver judgment.

Here, there are plenty of options where you'll be subjected to an Awareness skill check. While you make these decisions, Abelard will be observing the group. Thus, you have three options:

  • "House Sauerback is guilty. Seneschal, you may take it from here."
  • "House Sauerback is guilty. The head of your family has never tried to hide his attitude toward me. That is more than enough to convict him."
  • "House Gaprak is guilty. One of your members orchestrated an attack on the Rogue Trader – treason by anyone’s reckoning."

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

By choosing the first option and leaving the command to Abelard, he will interrogate Macharius and learn of his loyalty to the von Valancius family.

As Regina is about to slap Abelard, he grabs her wrist and reveals the device she has been hiding – the weapon used to kill Gallen Gaprak. Thus, you will uncover the mastermind behind the events.

Following this, you can question Regina Sauerback.

Additionally, if you have developed a relationship with Regina and flirted with her in front of Macharius, an extra dialogue option will appear . However, it does not change the outcome.

After hearing Regina's words, you will have the final two options remaining. You must inform Abelard who will be executed:

  • "The entire family. The foul blood will be wiped out."
  • “I will not exterminate an entire noble line that is loyal to me just because of one traitor.”

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

By choosing the second option, you will receive the Traitor's Ring, Regina's assassination weapon. Now, there is nothing left but to speak with Abelard on the voidship's bridge.

Speak With Abelard And Finish The Quest

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Blood Ties Quest Walkthrough

After conversing with Abelard on the ship's bridge, you must choose an option regarding his future, but regardless of your choice, it just affects the ending of the game.

Your current selection doesn't change anything for your gameplay. You can tell Abelard to take care of his family or to stay with you.
