Learn how to get to the Dragon Isles in World Of Warcraft: Dragonflight!

Like with every World of Warcraft expansion, the Dragonflight expansion has introduced new lands to explore. Befitting the name of the expansion, the fabled Dragon Isles is where the adventurers of Azeroth have embarked on all manner of perilous and legendary adventures.

However, with the plethora of continents and islands that make up the "world" of Warcraft, as well as the other planets and realms of existence adventurers can access, it can be tricky to figure out where to get to where you want to. As the Dragon Isles are situated in the northeast seas of Azeroth, there are a couple of ways to get to them, both mundane and magical.

The Ships And The Portals

In total, there are two ways to get to the Dragon Isles, and both are tried and true methods of transportation that the denizens of Azeroth have used since the dawn of World of Warcraft; ships and portals. Additionally, both of these methods are further split by the faction lines of the Alliance and Horde, with both factions having one of each.

The Horde Ship To The Waking Shores

The Horde airship docks on the southern platform of its zeppelin tower.

The Defiant Dragonscale is the Horde's airship to the Dragon Isles; the zeppelin tower it docks at lies on the shores of the orcish nation of Durotar's Bladefist Bay, just south of the cave of Skull Rock. The Horde capital city of Orgrimmar lies just northwest, connected to this harbor by the road running through the Dranosh'ar Blockade.

Once aboard the Defiant Dragonscale, it will whisk you away to the Wild Coast of the Waking Shores, the first zone that mortal explorers traverse on the Dragon Isles. It docks at an unnamed Horde camp just north of Wingrest Embassy, the first questing hub of the Isles.

This avenue of travel to the Isles is also the most common way for Horde adventurers journeying here for the first time, as the blood elf Naleida Rivergleam tasks said adventurers to ride the ship from Durotar through the quest "To the Dragon Isles!"

The Horde Portal To Valdrakken

Horde adventurers also have access to a permanent portal to the Dragon Isles located in Orgrimmar's Portal Room. The Portal Room is found within the eastern wall of the tunnel leading through Orgrimmar's front gate, the one leading south into Durotar.

Inside this room, the portal to the Dragon Isles' capital city, Valdrakken, is situated on the left side, and it lies in between the portal to Silvermoon City, the capital city of the blood elves, and Oribos, the capital city of the Shadowlands.

Don't take the stairs to your left when you enter the Portal room, as that will take you to the lower level. Walk straight into the main room instead.

The Alliance Ship To The Waking Shores

Alliance adventurers wishing to sail to the Dragon Isles must head down into Stormwind Harbor, the northwest district of the human Kingdom of Stormwind's capital, Stormwind City. This ship is called the Rugged Dragonscale, and it is a Kul Tiran-styled ship that docks at the harbor's southernmost dock; the portal to the night elven capital of Darnassus can also be found here, and the ship to the Kul Tiran human capital of Boralus, The Relentless, docks here as well.

The best way to tell the Rugged Dragonscale apart from the Relentless is which way they face when docked. The Rugged Dragonscale faces north (your right if standing on the dock), and The Relentless faces south (your left if standing on the dock) when each of them docks.

The Rugged Dragonscale shall ferry you to an unnamed Alliance camp on the Wild Coast of the Dragon Isles' Waking Shores should you travel on it. As the first zone many mortal adventurers explore upon reaching the Isles, the dragonflights' Valdrakken Accord's Wingrest Embassy lies nearby to the south.

The Wildhammer dwarf Toddy Whiskers also sends many adventurers who have never been to the Isles to ride this ship here from Stormwind City through the quest "To the Dragon Isles!"

The Alliance Portal To Valdrakken

Stormwind City also houses the Alliance's portal to the Dragon Isles' capital city of Valdrakken. Stormwind City's Portal Room is found atop the city's mage tower, the Wizard's Sanctum, at the center of the Mage Quarter.

When you ascend the tower and reach the Portal Room, turn into the left wing of the room, and you will find the portal to Valdrakken at the end of the hall on the left. The two portals on either side of it are the portal to Stormshield, the Alliance's outpost in the alternate timeline Draenor, and the portal to Boralus, the capital city of the human nation of Kul Tiras.

Additionally, the portal to Shadowlands' capital city, Oribos, lies directly across from it.

Class-Specific Methods Of Reaching The Dragon Isles

In addition to the faction-specific ships and portals to the Dragon Isles, two classes have special ways of accessing the Isles that can be used from anywhere. These two are Mages and Druids, with Mages being able to teleport and create portals to Valdrakken, and Druids being able to dreamwalk through the Emerald Dream to Amirdrassil.

How Mages Access The Dragon Isles

Mages can famously transport themselves and their party members to key locations throughout Azeroth and beyond, with new locations becoming available every expansion. In Dragonflight, Mages became able to learn how to teleport themselves to Valdrakken through the spell "Teleport: Valdrakken", and how to send others to the dragonflights' capital city through the spell "Portal: Valdrakken".

Remember to visit Alregosa, the Valdrakken portal trainer, the first time you visit the city as a Mage, to learn these spells. She can be found standing next to the portal to Stormwind City on the lower floor of The Seat of the Aspects.

How Druids Access The Dragon Isles

Introduced in the Legion expansion, Druids became able to traverse the ephemeral paths of the Emerald Dream through the spell "Dreamwalk". Replacing their older, more simplified spell "Teleport: Moonglade", "Dreamwalk" brings Druids into the Emerald Dreamway, a nexus of the various portals that connect the Emerald Dream to the waking world of Azeroth.

Druids can only travel to the Isles this way themselves. They cannot bring other adventurers with them.

Although unnamed on the map of the Emerald Dreamway, as it only became active with the blooming of the world tree Amirdrassil on the Dragon Isles, the Dreamway portal to the Isles is found at the end of one of the western paths, in between the portals to Moonglade and Feralas. This portal is connected to one under the waking world's version of Amirdrassil, on the southern bluffs of the Rootbound Sanctuary, and from here, the Isles proper lie to the east, starting with the Ohn'ahran Plains.
