A dedicated modder has officially released Doomdivers. It’s a massive gameplay conversion mod that turns classic DOOM into a pixelated Helldivers 2 demake. This mod uses the robust Super Earth weaponry suite directly within the iconic 1993 id Software engine.

Doomdivers will completely replace the enemies of the classic game. Players will battle Automatons and Terminids. The classic Mars map will have you running and gunning pixelated Devastators, Rocket Troopers, and Scout Striders.
Apart from the enemies, the modder has also ported over some fan-favorite weaponry. You will have access to LAS-16 Sickle, SG8-Punisher, Expendable Anti-Tank (EAT), and the Pummeler in Doomdivers.
Keep in mind, this is not just a visual reskin! The modder has painstakingly integrated working stims and a functional stratagem system into the retro engine. This includes those satisfying sound effects from Helldivers 2 when bots are destroyed.
The mod retains the classic DOOM-style HUD. It’s a perfect combination of the post-apocalyptic vibe of retro shooters with Helldivers 2’s intense combat loop. Hence, it should not come as a surprise that fans are digging this crossover.
Doomdivers Fits Perfectly Into the Current Helldivers 2 Narrative
Currently, the Helldivers 2 community is deeply entrenched in a defensive position after failing to take Cyberstan. The Helldivers have failed, resulting in a complete withdrawal from the sector. It seems the defenders of managed democracy need retraining.
Mars was heavily featured in the early parts of Helldivers 2; now, with this big offensive, it would make sense to “clean” the planet and retake it. Remember, it used to house the training facilities before they were destroyed in the Razing of Mars event. Doomdivers just lets you capture it for some more training.
The 1993 game is perfect for such a scenario to play out. DOOM has an enduring legacy that has transcended time and technology. However, it helps that the classic DOOM and DOOM II got definitive updates in 2024 (via Bethesda). Helldivers 2 is just the latest game to utilize it.
