Maze Theory

Project Hail Mary is getting its own mixed reality video game, letting fans step into the shoes of Ryland Grace in an “untold chapter” of the story.

After cleaning up at the box office, Project Hail Mary is on track to be one of 2026’s biggest movies. Based on the book by Andy Weir, the film follows Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) and his mission to Tau Ceti, where he comes across the Eridian alien Rocky, who, like Grace, is trying to save his own planet.

The heartwarming tale has received critical acclaim, and fans have been desperate to see more of the unlikely duo. Well, their wishes are coming true, as a video game is on the way.

Project Hail Mary game lets you meet Rocky in VR

Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars is being developed by Maze Theory and will arrive on mixed reality and VR platforms in “late 2026.”

An original story from Andy Weir himself, it drops you into a “pivotal, untold chapter” that wasn’t mentioned in the book or film. In it, you must work alongside Rocky to fix the ship’s failing systems and keep the mission alive.

As an MR/VR game, you can interact directly with items in the ship’s cockpit and even pilot it. Most importantly of all, you can communicate with Rocky by giving him a thumbs up he won’t understand, or even live out the already classic “fist my bump” moment.

“Since creating Project Hail Mary a few years ago, fans have been waiting for more,” Weir explained in the announcement video. “This is the first step outside of what happens in the book and movie that you can experience in mixed reality.”
