I have an awful lot of technology in my office, and I’ve learned the hard way that power strips aren’t always the answer. Between multiple TV sets, a couple’s PC setup for my wife and me to play games together, a 3D printer, and more, I found that I was very quickly running out of space to plug in new pieces of equipment. Then, I happened to stumble upon the most obvious answer possible—a surge protector with more plugs than I had ever seen in my life before.
My office is easily one of my beloved spots in my home, and while having 18+ plugs on an outlet may seem like overkill to some, the POWSAV 18 Outlet Surge Protector is something so nice, I’ve bought it twice. It’s got something for everything, and I cherish this surge protector more than I could have ever expected.
It's got enough space for everything and more
You never realize how many electronics you have

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had issues with having far too many electronics plugged in, and I think that’s something I inherited from my grandfather. He always had a TV, a soundbar, a Hi-Fi VHS player, a DVD player, an impressive collection of physical media, and other things plugged into a smattering of power strips. While he is no longer here with us today, his love for all things electronic has rubbed off on me. A surge protector like this would have saved him plenty of headaches, as his cable management skills are something I also inherited.
Having 18 plugs sounds like overkill, but I wouldn’t be shocked if I had all of these plugs filled in by the end of the year. Currently, one of the two I have in my office is almost filled, while the other still has roughly half of its spaces open. It just gives me an excuse to keep adding more stuff to my office, because space needs to be filled.

USB ports are an excellent addition
My spare cords finally have a purpose

While one corner of my office is decidedly retro, housing consoles ranging from the PlayStation 1 to the Wii, I’ve upgraded some parts of my experience. One of the biggest things is the addition of wireless controllers, meaning that I can play anywhere in my office without being tethered to even more cords. But charging a smattering of controllers can be incredibly annoying, especially since these older consoles don’t have the USB ports necessary to make that happen directly from the console itself.
That’s where these USB ports come in handy, as I can plug in a few extra USB-A to USB-C cords and charge my controllers when they aren’t in use. The additional USB-C plug can also be used to charge a phone, tablet, or other high-powered electronics while keeping everything in my entertainment center running like a dream. It’s something I never even considered before, but now that I have it, I never want another surge protector without USB plugs ever again. Just ensure you have the proper cords to take full advantage of these plugs.
I've never run into a power issue
No matter what I throw its way, I've never tripped it

As of the time of this article, I’ve got a fair number of beefy and aging electronics plugged into this POWSAV surge protector. Even with a 32-inch CRT TV, a game console, and a 3D Printer running at the same time, I’ve run into zero issues with power delivery or tripping a fuse in the house. With Wisconsin being completely unable to make up its mind when it comes to weather, I also have nothing to worry about during a summer thunderstorm or a mid-winter blizzard knocking out my power.
I know that all of my electronics are safe, even if they’re running while the power is knocked out. This summer alone, I lost my power twice, and I saw zero issues when I booted up my electronics when it came back on. I love knowing that all of my childhood consoles are safe, and that this surge protector has done its job once again.

Cable management can become difficult
It's something I've always struggled with, but this makes it admittedly worse
Remember how I mentioned that I inherited not only my love for electronics from my grandfather but also his cable management skills? This is a perfect example of how not to do things. I know it’s wrong, and I should probably do something about it before the internet gets on my case about it. At least this way, I know what everything does and where it goes, but I do really need to tidy things up a bit behind the scenes.
Having a surge protector with so many plugs is a blessing in so many ways, and a curse in many others. When I had things plugged directly into a power strip, I was much more cautious about how my cords looked. But with so many extra plugs, I’ve gotten a bit more sloppy about it, since I can hide things a bit better.
This is one of the best investments I've ever made
It's wild how something so simple works so well
This surge protector is one of those things I wish I had been told about earlier in my life. I could have saved time, money, and maybe a few electronics from meeting an untimely demise if I had something like this years ago. I’ve never had to worry about running out of space when I’m planning a new addition to my entertainment center, and I can rest easy knowing that everything is protected.
Now that I’ve had to face the reality of my cord mismanagement, I’ve got my work cut out for me. At least until I get unplugged and properly sorted, I don’t have to worry about a winter storm knocking out all of my precious electronics. If you’ve got consoles, electronics, or anything else you hold near and dear, I strongly suggest looking into a surge protector for yourself. Even if it doesn’t have 18 outlets available on it.
