A town in Switzerland is set to start fining dog walkers who don’t spray water on their dog’s pee, as it wants to make them more “responsible” for the cleaning.
Responsible dog owners will make a fair few preparations for every dog walk. Not only do you have to pack treats, but you’re going to need a roll of poo bags, just in case nature calls while you’re out and about.
Plenty of places have dog-specific bins for the poo-filled bags, but there are plenty of walkers who will simply leave nature to deal with the excrement. That means, if you’re not careful, you may end up stepping in some, and it ends up looking bad on responsible owners.
If your dog pees on something, that can be a different story. While grass may die out due to repeated splashes, it’s not as punishable as poop. However, some places do take a stand.

That now includes the Swiss town of Chiasso, as they want to start clamping down on dog owners who don’t clean up after their dogs pee.
As per Le News, officials started debating punishments back in June, and have now pushed through new rules that will take effect in August.
Dog owners will receive a warning if they don’t clean up after their dog’s pee on the first offence, while repeat offenders will receive €100/$114/£85 fines. They will also be expected to carry bottles of water too.

According to Le News, local politicians said the new measures are to make dog owners more “responsible” as the town’s cleaners can’t be everywhere at once.
Other towns and cities across Europe, including Barcelona, have had these rules for a little while now, with some having larger fines than Chiasso.
It isn’t yet a criminal offence to not clean up the pee, so don’t expect to see anyone locked up in jail for it.
