Over the weekend, a short video circulating online appeared to show the Oscar-nominated actor walking alongside a woman many fans quickly identified as actress Anamaria Vartolomei.
Many fans claimed that the pair noticed they were being filmed and moved away from the cameras. They speculated on a romantic affair between the actor and the French-Romanian actress. It was also claimed that efforts were made to shield their presence, fueling the rumors that the two were attempting to leave together unnoticed.
From there, the story grew, evolving into claims of evasive late-night drives through Paris and an alleged return to the hotel after realizing they were being followed.

But as quickly as the rumor took shape, it began to unravel. Other fans pointed out that Chalamet was clearly surrounded by members of his professional team. They also claimed that Chalamet and the actress appeared to be heading to a scheduled event rather than sneaking away for a private outing.
