In case you missed it, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the 2023 Anime of the Year-winning show set within the larger Cyberpunk 2077 universe, is set to receive a 10-episode Season 2, according to an announcement made during this weekend’s Anime Expo convention.
There’s no word on when it’ll premiere, but it’ll be another collaboration between TRIGGER and CD Projekt Red. Oh, and if you were hoping for a more cheerful story this time around, then think again. Not only is it being pegged as a «chronicle of redemption and revenge,» but the show’s writer is also intent on making everyone sad.
Remind Me To Never Visit Poland
As part of the larger panel that hosted the Season 2 announcement, Bartosz Sztybor, who served as writer and producer of Season 1, discussed some of the inspiration behind the anime’s storytelling, to which he revealed:
«I’m from Poland. People in Poland are sad. They are born sad. They die sad. So I just wanted to make the whole world sad.»
If that wasn’t enough, Sztybor also said that «When people are sad, then I’m a bit happy.»
Nothing quite like having someone revel in making everyone sad. Still, given how excellent Edgerunners turned out, perhaps Sztybor had good enough reason to make us feel those emotions. In the interim, if you need a pick-me-up, then the teaser shown at Anime Expo should have you feeling hyped.
