Iconic singer Bonnie Tyler has died at the age of 75 following a stint in hospital.

The Welsh singer was one of the most recognizable voices in music, enjoying a career that spanned more than five decades. She rose to international fame with her distinctive raspy vocals and became best known for hit songs including Total Eclipse of the Heart, Holding Out for a Hero, It’s a Heartache, and Lost in France.

Throughout her career, she sold millions of records worldwide and remained an active performer, becoming one of the UK’s most successful recording artists.

News of her death comes just weeks after she was admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she underwent emergency intestinal surgery after falling seriously ill. Following the operation, Bonnie Tyler was placed into an induced coma to help doctors manage her recovery.

In May, an update shared by her spokesperson confirmed that Tyler had come out of the induced coma but remained in intensive care. At the time, they said she was still “very unwell,” although her condition was gradually improving.

The spokesperson also said doctors were confident that Tyler would recover, but warned that her progress was expected to be slow as she continued receiving treatment in hospital.

However, on July 9, a statement published on the singer’s official website has now confirmed that Tyler died in hospital in Portugal: “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.
