‘Totally Unacceptable’: Georgia Police Under Fire After Christian Group Says They Were Attacked at Pride Event

Blatant disregard for public safety

Officers from the Columbus, Georgia, Police Department have sparked public backlash after members of a Christian group accused them of turning a blind eye to an alleged assault that happened near a Pride event. The group said their complaints were ignored by police and that they were warned not to gather again without a permit.

According to Libs of TikTok, which shared a video of the incident on X, the Christian group had gathered on a public sidewalk near the event when a Pride attendee allegedly rushed over and tried to take one of their signs. In the clip, a woman can be seen sitting on one of the signs and holding onto it. Once the group started calling for nearby officers to intervene, the woman quickly rolled off the sign and ran away. Libs of TikTok reported that it was told police had witnessed the incident but failed to act.

Police Warn Christian Group About Future Gatherings

Later in the clip, as the group was preparing to leave the area, they encountered an officer who asked whether they had a permit to gather. The group responded that they had fewer than 15 people and believed they were within the limits of Columbus’ ordinance.

The officer then told them that he had to determine whether they were disrupting the event, to which they responded that they had not. Instead, the group claimed they had been the ones targeted. They alleged that one of their members had been “drop-kicked” by an attendee and that sexually explicit activities had taken place in front of children at the event.

Rather than addressing those complaints, the officer warned the group that they were now on law enforcement’s “radar.” He also said that if they were found engaging in similar activities without a permit, they could be stopped again for an “unlawful gathering.”

Public Reaction to the Georgia Incident

Many netizens reacting to the clip accused the officers of unfairly targeting the Christian group. “Police protecting the attackers and harassing Christians at a Pride event shows exactly how far the system has been captured,” one critic wrote. Another asked, “Why is it ok for other groups to protest on demand at any time or place but whenever Christians peacefully assemble it’s a problem🤔?”

A third said, “Threatening the victims afterward instead of arresting the attacker makes no sense.” A fourth remarked, “A double standard is evident here, I hope this is resolved.”

Others were furious that the group’s reports had allegedly gone unanswered. “Totally unacceptable what is wrong with these people and the police just sit there and watch crimes happen and not do anything,” one person said. Another commented, “This is a blatant disregard for public safety. Police deliberately ignoring an assault committed right in front of them.” Someone else added, “This is why WE the People no longer Trust Law Enforcement,, It is the cops who are the criminals.”

Some people who identified themselves as locals also criticized the Columbus Police Department. “Columbus resident and I can tell you the police in this town are not very bright. They struggle to keep their numbers up nobody wants to work for this crap town,” one commenter claimed. Another resident wrote, “That city is beyond corrupt. Had to run away during Covid.”

According to Libs of TikTok, the group said they believed police had hoped to “intimidate” them during the interaction. They questioned why officers viewed them as a problem for “standing for their faith” when they reported they were the ones being attacked.
