Rob Rausch is trying to smooth things over with Maura Higgins after the finale of The Traitors Season 4 US on Peacock. After secretly playing as a Traitor all season, Rob blindsided Maura, his longtime ally, and walked away with the full $220,800 prize. After winning, Rob apologised and promised to buy her a Hermès Birkin bag as a peace offering. During the reunion, Rob told host Andy Cohen what he’s going to do with the money, he said,

Probably save it for the future… and I have to buy Maura a Birkin Bag.

He shared it with fellow Traitor, Candiace Dillard Bassett, who added, “I was gonna say, there’s a promise to buy Maura a Birkin Bag.”

Maura made her opinion clear, “You get my Birkin, you are forgiven. We go from there.” Honestly, this is the least he can do after betraying her the whole time.

What Happened at The Traitors Season 4 Finale?

From the start of Season 4, Love Island USA star Rob Rausch played a deceptive but effective game. Rob had spent the season gaining Maura’s trust and formed a tight alliance that seemed unstoppable. The finale episode came down to the last six contestants: Rob, Maura, Eric Nam, Johnny Weir, Mark Ballas, and Tara.

The finale began with Mark Ballas being “murdered” in front of the group. He had to lie in a coffin surrounded by a ring of fire. This left Rob, Maura, Eric Nam, Johnny Weir, and Tara Lipinski as the final five. After Natalie Anderson was mistakenly banished, it cleared Rob and Eric’s path, with Maura firmly in his corner, had a direct path to the finale.

Johnny was eliminated at the next Roundtable, when Maura cast the deciding vote. While she was shown conflicted, she ultimately continued following Rob’s lead at the Fire of Truth. Rob, Eric, and Maura then chose to “Banish Again” to eliminate Tara. Eric Nam tried to appeal to her: “You are wrong. You are so incredibly wrong. I want you to think about why you have never questioned the other player in this game.”

Of course, it didn’t work, and Eric was out. Rob finally revealed he had been a Traitor from day one, and Maura was in complete shock. She said,

Oh my God, I’m so stupid. I was so fooled by you, you absolute a**hole. You pinky promised! You’re a piece of work. I was so convinced. You’ve embarrassed me.

Rob tried to explain how sorry he was, but Maura cut him off and said,

You’re never going to have a girlfriend after this. You’re such a good liar.

Despite the betrayal, she admitted some respect for his gameplay, “I mean, fair play though. You know what, if I was a Traitor I would have done the same. No hard feelings.” The way he plotted from the very beginning of the show it was predictable Rob might be the winner and he really did win.

How Did The Traitors Cast React to Rob Rausch’s Betrayal?

The other contestants were equally stunned. Maura wasn’t the only one who was the victim of his game, he betrayed his fellow Traitor, too. At the Season 4 reunion, hosted by Andy Cohen, Eric Nam admitted it took him a few days to recover from Rob’s final move. He said, “I will never trust anybody ever again.” He also stated,

If I had done that, I just wouldn’t be able to live with myself in that way. Money is great, but I think relationships are more important. And it doesn’t feel good.

Rob defended saying, “Would you give $100,000 to someone you met three weeks ago? I wouldn’t.”

Rob said he “just got lucky” to which fellow Traitor Candiace Dillard Bassett said it was luck plus smartness:

A humble Traitor! I would say it’s a combination of smarts and luck. I think this group of Faithfuls need to go to Faithful school and perhaps that impacted some of the success.

Poor Maura was heartbroken. In the finale confessional, she said, “This is why I don’t trust anybody ever, because they stab you in the back.” Her final confessional summed it up perfectly, “He’s a bad man. But good for him. Oh, my days. Rob, you’re a f***ing snake. But well done.”

Seems like no one is going to recover from Rob’s betrayal. However, Maura is going to get a luxury handbag for sure.
