Umamusume: Pretty Derby is getting a major quality-of-life feature early in its English version, letting players complete training runs even while the app is closed.
Cygames announced the update in a letter to players shared by the official Umamusume English account, confirming that the English version will receive two major features currently available in Japan as part of its in-game 1.5-year anniversary celebrations.
The biggest addition is Independent Training, a new feature designed to make daily training tasks easier to complete. According to Cygames, training will “automatically progress in the background in real time,” even while the app is closed or while players are using other in-game features.

Umamusume adds closed-app training feature early
The announcement has already caught the attention of players, especially because there has been some confusion over what type of autoplay is actually being added.
In the Japanese version of Umamusume, there are multiple forms of autoplay. One requires the game to stay open throughout a career and gives players more control over choices like races, events, and other training decisions.
However, players quickly noted that the English version appears to be getting the newer Independent Training feature instead. That version can progress a career while the game is closed, with a run taking around 50 minutes and offering far fewer choices during the process.
Because of that, it likely won’t replace manual training for high-end builds or competitive runs. Instead, players expect it to be especially useful for daily missions, fan farming, or simply getting a career done while sleeping, commuting, or working.
Cygames also confirmed that the Steam version of Umamusume will get 60 FPS Concerts early, with 4K resolution support planned to follow shortly after. The developer said the frame rate boost will make stage performances smoother, while 4K support will improve outfit textures and facial details during concerts.
