The newly available Steam Controller has proven to be extremely popular, with the item selling out in under 30 minutes and even crashing Steam itself. Now, those sold-out controllers are appearing on eBay at extraordinarily high prices.
Scalping is pretty common these days. Whether it’s a new Pokemon TCG set, a unique item for a highly anticipated game, the next generation of console, or even new pieces of tech, we regularly see things sell out and quickly appear on various resale sites at higher prices, with some reaching ten times the amount.
Well, following the new Steam Controller’s presale, fans were quick to scoop them up, prompting them to sell out in under half an hour, crashing the site, and leaving many without. What followed was tons being listed on eBay for nearly three times the original price.
Steam Controller listed for nearly 3x the price by scalpers
As seen on various resale sites like eBay, the 2nd generation Steam Controller has been listed for anywhere between $215 and an astronomical $399. Given that the controller is actually up for sale for $99, this is a substantial markup that comes only a day after the item was originally up for presale.
Despite the listings, fans have been quick to take action against the scalpers. Many have been reporting the driven-up listings to eBay, with some reporting success in getting them taken down, and others warning the community to avoid the listings at all costs.
PSA to report controller scalpers on eBay 🙂

What’s more, these are all presale listings, meaning they’re not even selling the physical controller as they’re yet to be sent out.
At the time of writing, the Steam Controller is still out of stock on the website, with no word on when that will change.
