Anime series are a great place to go if you want to find a wide array of interesting and diverse characters. With animation, you can get across different aspects of people that may not be as easy to do in live-action work. One anime that viewers have definitely taken note of the cast of characters is Dandadan.
A modern world full of extraterrestrials and demons awaits those who watch the show. There’s also a great cast of characters, from the unlikely coupled protagonists to the side characters and even the various antagonists of each episode. Fans of the show will fall in love with their antics and the goals that propel them, which may lead them to wonder which of these characters they are most like.
9 Aries — Turbo Granny
A Strong Personality
Aries are usually marked by intense emotions and an unwillingness to lose, something that gives them a lot of bad press over the years. True, this can manifest in a handful of ways, some more helpful than others.
In Dandadan, the one closest to the Aries sign would be Turbo Granny herself. She may have shown up as the main antagonist of the first few episodes, but the more that is revealed about her, the more people can sympathize with her. She can be brash and antagonistic, but she does it out of fear of being left behind and an urge to care for the people who are like her, as shown in her backstory.
8 Taurus & Scorpio — Taro
Connections With Others
While he didn’t have much time in Dandadan in the grand scheme of things Taro made a lasting impression for his ideals and emotional attachment to his wife. Something that echoed Okarun’s and Momo’s own emotional attachment to one another.
Taro, from the second he is introduced to the last moment he is seen, only worries about seeing his love again. While it doesn’t have to be in the romantic sense, Tauruses and Scorpios often also find themselves pulled toward the connections they have with others. This is something that often gives them energy, instead of depleting it, as other signs can often find.
7 Gemini — Jiji
A Duality
Geminis are another sign that gets a bad rap occasionally, but this often stems from the dichotomy they often embody. It’s a dichotomy that Jiji, Momo’s friend, often embodies in his character.
Jiji often has two sides to him. The side he shows to Momo and sometimes Okarun is playful, jovial, and childlike at times. This is especially true when faced with the possibility that Okarun and Momo might get together. However, when the moment arises, he can get serious and defend those he cares about. It’s just a bit few and far between when it comes to Jiji.
6 Cancer — Seiko Ayase
Loyalty Above All Else
One of the main things that stands out about Cancers is their loyalty to the ones they care about. Granted, that could be said about many of the signs, but combined with their level-headedness and calm demeanor, make them a valuable partner in tense situations.
This best describes Seiko Ayase, sometimes referred to as Granny Ayase, the matriarch of Momo’s family. She may not show up every episode, but when she does, she is a valuable asset to Momo and Okarun, giving them sage advice and helping them out from time to time. She isn’t above getting her hands dirty and joining the fight, which will often happen when Cancers are pushed.
5 Leo & Virgo — Momo
Strength & Kindness
Leo’s are often considered one of the strongest signs, both in the manifestations of their sign, and in their own emotional wherewithall. When these manifestations come out depends on the person, but the character in Dandadan that is most like Leo would definitely be Momo Ayase. But it is the softer moments of her personality, like when she is one-on-one with the people she cares about, that she drops her guard, which makes her similar to the Virgo sign.
True, she has moments where she is more on the shy and quiet side where the Virgo in her pops out a bit more, but most of the time, she makes for a powerful force. She is emotionally intelligent and not scared to show her emotions when they bubble up. This is seen often in discussions about her family and when it comes to protecting herself and others. It is this dichotomy that makes her similar to both signs.
4 Libra — Okarun (Ken Takakura)
A Balance
Okarun is one-half of the powerful duo of protagonists who make Dandadan what it is. While he has a myriad of emotions, quirks, and ideas, he can best be described as a libra as far as the zodiac signs go.
Libras are all about balance, both in how they treat people and how they view themselves. This is easily seen in this character for his dual view that people have of him as Ken Takakura and Okarun. He is both well-meaning, kind, and plenty caring, but many people first see him as nerdy, meek, and unassuming. These two sides of him slowly converge through Dandadan as his powers allow him to achieve his goals.
3 Sagittarius & Capricorn — Aira Shiratori
Uniqueness & New Adventures
Shiratori gets a bad rap when she is first introduced in Dandadan, but as fans see her character develop, they get a better sense of why she is the way she is. Something that she and the Sagittarius and even the Capricorn signs have in common, among other things.
Sagittariuses can be one of the more complex signs out there, one that is hard to get a read on at times. They are a sign that craves adventure in the more common sense of the word, often seeking out new opportunities or connections with new people that seem fun or would benefit them in some way. We see this through Aira’s connection with the main crew, despite her distrust of them at first, and her ability to connect with the Silky spirit, furthering her belief that she is destined for greatness.
Capricorns will also find a kindred spirit in Shiratori. Capricorn is one of the most independent signs that strategizes situations the most, and Shiratori can be seen using both of these skills in the classroom. She is keen to plan out her social interactions to benefit her but is more than happy to pave her own way as well.
2 Aquarius — Silky
Love Above All Else
Aquariuses are a water sign that often lets their emotions lead them. This doesn’t have to be done in a bad way, and often, they will find their passion and love for others to be the driving emotions.
This is seen best in the Silky, especially her backstory. A mother who gave up her own time and health for her daughter, she was solely focused on her daughter’s safety until the end. Something that she carried with her even into becoming a spirit, which gave her her incredible powers, much like these emotions give Aquariuses power.
1 Pisces — Mr. Mantis Shrimp (Dover Demon)
Not Wishy-Washy
No, not just a fish joke. First, a deadly alien encounter in Dandadan, it wasn’t until after the battle in the school that Mr. Mantis Shrimp became a character with a surprising amount of death, much like Turbo Granny and the Silky.
Mr. Mantis Shrimp was misunderstood, having only taken the job of fighting for the other aliens to try and make money for his sick child. It is this connection with the people closest to him that makes him most like the Pisces sign. This sign is quite loyal and caring towards those they care for the most, something that they can end up pushing to their own harm.
