The Marathon Server Slam is only active for a short time. Here’s when it ends. As a limited-time, free test of Marathon’s server infrastructure and a way for anyone to try the game, the Server Slam will eventually come to an end. If you liked what you saw, you won’t have to wait long for more, as the Marathon Server Slam end time and the full release almost couldn’t be closer. The Marathon Server Slam ends on March 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. That makes it a full five-day test, and one I think has gone relatively well. The Marathon build used for the Slam is hardly free of issues, including the mouse bug and the clunky UI, but it launched with almost 150,000 concurrent players without much server instability. That gives Bungie a veritable mountain of data to draw on as they prepare for the actual launch on March 5. Whether the player count will increase or decrease is anyone’s guess, especially given how much Marathon courted with controversy last year and how deep-seated people’s opinions about it are. I do think it has a place in the world and that it does fit into its own niche. The game is closer to Delta Force than it is to Tarkov, what with the runner abilities and focus on squad play. It also takes cues from Bungie’s past titles, and the buildcrafting opportunities set it apart from most other extraction games. My guess is any progress you make during the server slam will be reset come launch, so everyone who pays actual money for the game will be on an equal playing field. ARC Raiders went that route, and Escape from Tarkov veterans know how the cadence of wipes keeps everything level for a while. Marathon’s seasons sound like they’ll use a similar wipe-style system, but we’ll need to see what things look like after launch to have a better idea.
