What happened in Episodes 1-2?

Prime Video
Siren’s Kiss Episode 1 opens with a grisly scene: a factory worker deliberately cuts his fingers off with machinery while a man prepares paperwork nearby. The injury is part of a scheme in which workers are paid to harm themselves so organizers can collect large insurance payouts.
The story then introduces Cha Woo-seok, an insurance investigator known for pursuing cases involving fraud. He tracks down one of the men connected to the factory scheme and confronts him before the suspect is arrested.
Woo-seok later visits a hospital where a young girl named Chae-rin has been admitted with severe burns. The girl claims she injured herself accidentally while making ramen, but Woo-seok suspects her mother may have intentionally harmed her to collect insurance money.
A flashback reveals part of Woo-seok’s past and why he is so determined. His sister died in an accident involving her boyfriend, who was also the beneficiary of her life insurance policy. Although Woo-seok believed the boyfriend was responsible, the authorities were unable to prove it.

After the hospital visit, the episode introduces our other protagonist, Han Seol-ah, the chief auctioneer at Royal Auction. While inspecting artwork before an auction, she slashes a painting, determining that it’s a fake.
Later, Seol-ah leads a major auction where a valuable painting titled Universe is sold to wealthy buyer Paek Jun-beom. After the event, tension appears between Seol-ah and her colleague Kim Yun-ji, who believes she should receive more recognition.
During a conversation, Yun-ji suggests she knows a damaging secret about Seol-ah and says she plans to replace her at work.
Yun-ji later contacts Woo-seok and claims she has information about a murder connected to an insurance payout, arranging to meet him and provide details.
However, just as Woo-seok arrives, Yun-ji is attacked inside the building, falling from the roof to her death. Investigators later conclude that she had likely been grabbed before falling, indicating her death was a murder.

Prime Video
Woo-seok begins looking into Yun-ji’s workplace and learns more about Seol-ah. During his investigation, he discovers that Seol-ah’s fiancé, Yun Seung-jae, recently died – and she had a huge life insurance policy on him.
Although it was cancelled before his death, Seol-ah still would’ve benefitted from the premium. Woo-seok approaches Seol-ah and questions her directly about Seung-jae, but she remains calm and brushes him off.
Even so, Woo-seok is becoming increasingly suspicious of her – and there’s undeniable tension between the two. The final scene flashes back to the night of Yun-ji’s death, showing Seol-ah on the balcony above.
Siren’s Kiss Episode 2 begins with another flashback, this time showing Seol-ah being informed that Seung-jae has died in an accident, and she travels to the dock to identify his body.
In the present, Woo-seok continues questioning Seol-ah about Seung-jae’s death and the cancelled insurance policy. Their conversation is interrupted by a man named Eun-hyuk, who appears to be close to Seol-ah.

Prime Video
While looking into Yun-ji’s death, Woo-seok visits her home to deliver insurance documents to her mother. Seol-ah also arrives with Yun-ji’s belongings.
Inside Yun-ji’s room, Woo-seok searches through her items and finds a business card belonging to Seung-jae. Seol-ah separately notices a calendar where Yun-ji had written down her daily schedule and other notes, which she pockets.
Later, Woo-seok learns that Seung-jae owned a restaurant and that Yun-ji had visited it shortly before his death. Through his work on other insurance fraud cases, he also discovers that Seung-jae died alone – but the officer tells him that Seol-ah’s lack of reaction was odd.
Woo-seok questions Seol-ah again and asks if she knew that Yun-ji had been meeting Seung-jae before he died, although, of course, she doesn’t give a straightforward answer.
He then expands his investigation by looking into Seol-ah’s past relationships, discovering that a psychiatrist named Choi Young-ho had taken out a life insurance policy naming Seol-ah as the beneficiary. The policy was cancelled shortly before Young-ho died by suicide.

Prime Video
Woo-seok visits the hospital where Young-ho worked and speaks with a nurse, who tells him that Seol-ah had previously dated another man who later died during a terror attack in Syria.
By the end of the episode, Woo-seok confronts Seol-ah again and tells her that several men who were involved with her have died under unusual circumstances. But Seol-ah responds calmly and asks Woo-seok who he thinks will fall for her next.
It seems far too obvious to assume that Seol-ah is the killer, but there’s definitely something fishy going on. The investigation into Yun-ji’s death and Seol-ah’s past is expected to continue into Episode 3.
