Based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys is easily one of the best superhero shows on TV, blending bone-crunching violence with sharp satire through a story centered on the ongoing war between supes and those trying to stop them.
Season 4 ended with the stakes higher than ever as Homelander tightened his grip on America, while Butcher’s transformation and the supe-killing virus set the stage for a truly explosive final chapter.
Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait to see what happens next. The Boys Season 5 Part 1 is almost here, so here’s exactly when you can tune in for the return of Prime Video’s most diabolical series.
The Boys Season 5 Part 1 release date & time
The Boys Season 5 Episodes 1-2 are dropping at the same time for the premiere. They land on Prime Video on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 12am PT / 3am ET.
We’ve listed several other time zones so you know exactly when to tune in:

- 12.30pm India Standard Time
- 4pm Japan

This is the first time The Boys has only released two episodes for its premiere. Seasons 2, 3, and 4 all dropped three in one go to start, while Season 1 arrived in one binge-worthy batch.
It makes sense to only drop two for Season 5, as this is the beginning of the end for the series, and the slower rollout gives each episode more room to land (and boosts subscriptions for Amazon).

How many episodes are there?

Like all chapters that came before it, there are eight episodes in The Boys Season 5. Only the episode titles have been released at the time of writing, and they are as follows:
- Episode 1 – ‘Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite’
- Episode 2 – ’Teenage Kix’
- Episode 3 – ’Every One of You Sons of Bitches’
- Episode 4 – ’Though the Heavens Fall’
- Episode 5 – ’One-Shots’

Fun fact: ‘Fifteen Inches Of Sheer Dynamite’ is actually the teaser line for the end of Issue #11 of The Boys comics, aka the intro of Love Sausage. If you remember, him and his giant appendage came back to haunt MM in the Season 4 finale, so no doubt he’ll be returning.

As for the official synopsis, it reads, “In the fifth and final season, it’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a ‘Freedom Camp.’
“Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it.
“It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.”

What happened at the end of The Boys Season 4?

By the end of Season 4 and Gen V Season 2, Homelander effectively controls the US government, enforcing martial law and capturing most of The Boys. As for Butcher, he’s now a supe with a deadly ability, and he wants to use the virus to kill his nemesis.
The government takeover is phase one of the master plan enacted by Sister Sage, aka the smartest person on the planet and Homelander’s right-hand. After undermining the Starlight movement through misinformation spread by Firecracker, division across America reaches new heights.
This leads to the successful installation of a puppet president, who gives Homelander the power to declare martial law and deploy supes to roundup Starlighters – including Hughie, Frenchie, Kimiko, and Mother’s Milk – and imprison them at “Freedom Camps”.

Annie avoids capture and continues operating as part of the resistance, having previously developed her powers further, including the ability to fly. Marie and her friends join the resistance at the end of Gen V Season 2.
As for the Seven, their dynamic has changed by the end of Season 4. On his redemption arc, A-Train joins Annie. The Deep and Black Noir II remain loyal to Homelander, and they’re joined by newcomer Firecracker (who nearly kills herself trying to cater to Homelander’s milk fetish).
Elsewhere, Billy Butcher undergoes a major transformation after the use of Temp V left him with a terminal condition. In the last season of The Boys, he takes Compound V, but instead of curing him, it mutates his illness into tentacle-like extensions that can act independently – and lethally.

Following in the footsteps of his comic book counterpart, Butcher is more disillusioned than ever. After Becca’s and now Grace’s deaths (at the hands of Ryan, who’s now on the run), he’s determined to bring all supes down – even if he has to go with them.
In the Season 4 finale, before their capture, The Boys manage to convince Victoria Neuman to join forces to try and take down Homelander. However, Butcher shows up and uses his new powers to rip her to shreds, which will no doubt have ramifications in the new chapter.
One of the biggest threads heading into Season 5 is the supe-killing virus introduced in Gen V. Developed at Godolkin University, it was designed to control or eliminate supes, and Butcher now has the last known sample. His plan is to use it to kill Homelander, but there’s a slight issue: it could also wipe all supes off the face of the planet.

Last but definitely not least, the end of Season 4 reveals that Soldier Boy is still alive and being held in a secure facility. Homelander pays him a visit, and the Season 5 trailer shows his return. The question remains: will he join the supe supremacy movement, the resistance, or will he go rogue?
