Unstable Biomass is one of the more common items you can find in Marathon. Here’s where you can get it. Unstable Biomass is what’s called a Salvage item in Marathon, which you use primarily to upgrade specific skill trees and to barter for items with the Factions. It’s one of the more common Salvage items, and we’ll discuss the best places to find it today. Unstable Biomass is one of the most common Salvage items in the game, found primarily in NuCaloric facilities and other biological research locations. Specifically, you’ll want to look on shelves, desks, Folios, and in Bioprinters in the following zones: Of these, I found the buildings in and around the Algae Ponds to be some of the best spots to look for Unstable Biomass. I racked up more than 20 in just a few minutes of searching that area, but if I can do it, other runners will be on the lookout as well. Don’t neglect looking in the buildings near where you spawn. While these small outbuildings are far from the best loot zones in the game, you can find a few goodies in them. One of my earliest runs on Perimeter had a respectable amount of Unstable Biomass in it, as well as a couple of depleted med items. You’ll want to collect as much Unstable Biomass as you can early in a Marathon season, as the NuCaloric upgrade trees and barters require a lot of them. They’re not great for selling, and don’t be afraid to ditch a few if you need space for some juicier loot. For more on Marathon, check out our dedicated game page.
