Eventually, the star’s final acting role came in the 2013 film April Apocalypse. Since then, he has not been seen onscreen. However, according to The Independent, in a July 2024 Instagram post, Prokop revealed that he had launched an OnlyFans account focused on adult content and announced his engagement.
Matthew Prokop Was Arrested in December 2025 on Child P*rn Charges
Meanwhile, Matthew Prokop was arrested on December 24, 2025, in Victoria County, Texas. According to People, officials from the Victoria County Jail confirmed that he was taken into custody. Further, it was revealed that the former Disney star faces several charges, including four misdemeanors.
Overall, his charges include violating a bond or protective order, evading arrest or detention, and two counts of resisting arrest. But what shocked people the most is the additional charge, where he faces a second-degree felony for possession or promotion of child p*rnography, which is the most serious charge against him.
Additionally, the police revealed that Prokop had previously been arrested in 2024 for resisting arrest and aggravated assault of a family member. Therefore, his recent, December 2025 arrest was linked to violations of bond conditions from that earlier case. However, now, a warrant related to the child p*rnography charge was signed on December 31.
So far, E! News reported that the actor remains in custody, with bail set at $117,500, and his court date has not yet been announced.
Former Disney Star Previously Accused of Abuse by Ex Sarah Hyland
Now, Matthew Prokop’s arrest has also brought renewed attention to past abuse allegations made by his ex-girlfriend, actor Sarah Hyland. The Modern Family star accused Prokop of verbal and physical abuse during their nearly five-year relationship, which ended in 2014. As per court documents obtained by E! News, Hyland claimed that he physically attacked her during an argument in May 2014.

In later filings via People, Hyland alleged that Prokop’s behavior became increasingly threatening after their breakup. She claimed he threatened to kill her dog and burn down her house. That’s when, concerned for her safety, Hyland turned to her Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen, who played her onscreen mother, for help in ending the relationship peacefully, in August 2014.
Court records state that Bowen helped arrange for Prokop to return to Texas, but the situation reportedly escalated during the process, leading the High School Musical 3 star to reportedly be admitted into rehab in August. However, after he left the rehab on September 21, the doctors at the facility advised Hyland to seek legal protection due to Prokop’s mental state (via The Independent).
So, a judge granted Hyland a restraining order, requiring Prokop to stay at least 100 yards away from her and her dog at all times.
