High Potential Season 2 aired its season finale on Tuesday night, with a shocking twist at the end of the episode. The high ratings of the second season prompted ABC to renew the show for Season 3. Kaitlin Olson‘s LAPD consultant, Morgan, and Daniel Sunjata’s Detective Karadec will be back with more mysterious cases for High Potential Season 3.

ABC confirmed the renewal news on Instagram in March 2026, with the caption, “The case isn’t closed. High Potential has been renewed for Season 3! Who’s excited?” An accompanying video featured the regular cast of the series, suggesting that they will be back for the new season.

The audience of the show seems to be growing for the second season. According to THR, the tenth episode of the show pulled in 12.98 million total viewers after seven days on ABC, Hulu, and Disney+. The episode had a live audience of 5.93 million viewers, meaning that it more than doubled its views across platforms after a week.

High Potential Season 3 Potential Release Date

An official premiere date for High Potential Season 3 has yet to be announced. The first two seasons of the show premiered in September 2024 and 2025, respectively. The third season is expected to follow a similar fall release pattern. A new episode of the show will hit ABC in September 2026 at the earliest.

High Potential Season 3 Cast: Who Is Leaving?

There is no official cast announcement yet for High Potential Season 3. Kaitlin Olson, Daniel Sunjata, Judy Reyes, Javicia Leslie, and Deniz Akdeniz made an appearance in the Instagram video announcing the renewal. These regular cast members are expected to return for the next season.

However, we are not so sure about Steve Howey’s return. According to PEOPLE, Howey’s Captain Nick Wagner is likely to return for a third season. Showrunner Todd Harthan told CinemaBlend recently that they were holding off on a potential relationship between Morgan and Wagner. Harthan shared:

We really wanted to see where things went naturally between Morgan and Wagner and frankly, we also wanted a chance to see what felt right to Kaitlin, who’s always a huge part of those creative discussions, especially anytime we bring a guy into Morgan’s world.

However, after the shocking season finale, Deadline reported that Howey is exiting the show as a series regular after Season 2. The outlet shared that Howey joined the series on a one-year deal, making his alleged exit less surprising. However, the outlet also noted that Howey could return as a guest star to wrap his character arc in Season 3.

While Howey’s fate hangs in the balance, the new season has already lost one of its key people. Showrunner Harthan has exited the show after two seasons to take over Disney+’s live action Eragon series. High Potential is now on the search for a new showrunner for the upcoming season.

Fans also expect to see Amirah J, Matthew Lamb, Taran Killam, Mekhi Phifer, and Susan Kelechi Watson in Season 3.

High Potential Season 2 ended on a major cliffhanger when Morgan finds Captain Nick Wagner gravely injured. It is this development that led many to speculate that Steve Howey will return for a third season.

Now, the Roman storyline will probably be stretched out over episodes, as the series will likely opt for its usual format.
