Witchspire tips and tricks

Witchspire doesn’t hold your hand when playing and therefore allows you to explore this magical world at your own pace with friends, but knowing exactly how to get started and what you should be focusing on while playing can be a little troublesome.

Sure, there’s the Main Quest at hand, but there’s also plenty to be doing while you go about that which you shouldn’t miss out on. Below, I’ve detailed some tips and tricks to help you with getting started and ultimately making the most of your time playing Witchspire.

1. You can adjust the difficulty.

Despite what the internet may tell you, there’s no shame in adjusting the difficulty of Witchspire to suit your playstyle. When you create your first world or go to reopen your world, you’ll be able to modify your difficulty settings.

These include the ability to reduce incoming damage from enemies, an EXP multiplier for both yourself and your Familiar, and you can even increase the chances of spirits lingering (which means more new Familiars) or increase how much loot is dropped by foes.

If you fancy a cosy, whimsical adventure, lower enemy damage and increase your EXP multiplier or loot. If you’re instead looking for a real challenge, make enemies hit harder and reduce how much EXP you get instead! You can also use these settings to adjust EXP Share in your world if you’re playing alongside friends.

2. Gather everything.

Witchspire is a survival-crafting game through and through, so it probably comes as no surprise that I’m suggesting you gather everything, but you really should. Every single flower or wooden branch you run past when getting started, pick it up. Similarly, every hostile creature you find, kill it.

For your first few upgrades in Witchspire, you’re going to need plenty of wood and Spirit Dust, among other resources like Froblin Goo and Cinderblooms. The story fortunately takes you to areas where these resources are rampant, but you’ll need to be sure to pick plenty of them up!

It also pays to make a mental note of where you found specific resources, as the map – at the time of writing – isn’t very helpful with that. For example, Froblin Goo can be gathered from slain Froblins at Froblin Camps while Chirili Tufts are dropped by slain Chirilis in Chirili Crater. These locations are marked on your map once you visit them, but you’ll need to remember the resources prevalent there.

3. Get healing supplies.

To level up and gather the Spirit Dust needed for various upgrades in Witchspire, you’re going to need to spend a lot of time killing hostile creatures and eventually, killing bosses. With this in mind, it’s worth stocking your hotbar full of healing supplies as soon as possible, especially because it’s easily done.

When you’re out gathering everything as previously recommended, you should also gather an abundance of green Verdantblooms. These can be turned into Verdantbloom Petals at a Workbench and used to heal you consistently throughout fights or while exploring. Of course, a healing potion is always more ideal, but Verdantbloom Petals can be easily crafted in abundance so it’s always worth having some on you.

4. Focus on upgrading your Hearth.

At the very beginning of Witchspire, you’ll find a Hearth and be able to establish your first base. A Hearth is the heart of your base and you can set up multiple across the map and use them as fast travel points, but if you want to gain access to bigger and better upgrades and equipment, you’ll want to upgrade your main Hearth as soon as possible.

Whenever you aren’t completing quests as part of the main story, I recommend focusing on gathering supplies to upgrade your Hearth with. The more you upgrade it, the more recipes and skills you’ll unlock in the Luminaries Skill Tree, and you’ll need an upgraded Hearth if you want to unlock a Broom and start flying across the map.

5. Check out any question marks (?) on the map.

If you’re not questing or gathering resources to upgrade your Hearth with, spend some time checking out every question mark around your map. These are the locations of notable POIs (points of interest) and you’re likely to find something to do there that’ll line your inventory with loot or help you with gathering plenty of EXP for yourself and your familiars.

For example, multiple POIs feature Froblin Camps. Clearing these camps out of Froblins will net you plenty of EXP, Froblin Goo (a resource needed for Hearth Upgrades and crafting), and with some luck, you’ll find chests containing valuable loot such as potions, scrolls, or armour.

Similarly, the Rockling Breeding Grounds POI is home to lots of Rockling creatures. Not only will you find the Clay resource here, but you can farm Rocklings galore here until you unlock one – or multiple – as a Familiar.

6. Want a specific Familiar? Use Incense.

Creature collecting is a core component of Witchspire, and most of the rather adorable creatures you end up slaying across the map can all be collected and recruited as Familiars with some luck.

You’ll start out with just one Familiar of your choice, but after that, gathering new Familiars requires finding and killing every creature you come across and simply hoping one of their spirits lingers so you can collect it. To increase the chances of a spirit lingering, use some Incense before going on your murder spree; these increase the chances of you bagging a new Familiar.

Incense is often found in chests or can be rewarded from bosses, but you can also craft it at a Witchcraft Circle at your base.
