Do you fancy jumping into a brand new co-op roguelike before anyone else? Gang of Frogs, scheduled for release in 2026, is having a playtest, running for a week from 5th December. Based on our own time with the game, you’re probably going to want to check it out – especially if you enjoy co-op shooters.
Gang of Frogs can be played alone, of course, but it’s designed to be played in teams of up to four players, with you all working to overcome small but mighty challenges. This is a game packed with fast-paced action, with players moving between rooms that contain a group of enemies and a particular goal to overcome. Once you’re done, you’ll go back to a hub where you can pocket some rewards before jumping into the next challenge.
This is a great-looking game, too. Developer Aska Studios describes it as ‘Historical Cyberpunk’, mixing together archaeology with modern design for a cool, refreshing environment that’s fun to make your way through. And, of course, in case the name didn’t give it away, you’re playing as a frog. That instantly earns it brownie points in our eyes: your character is one serious badass amphibian.
During your run, you’ll be able to customise weapons, unlock new abilities and more using a card-based system. In theory, you can become seriously overpowered, but there’s an element of randomness here, as it depends on what cards are available to you at any one time. But isn’t that the case with any roguelike?
We’ve only tasted what Gang of Frogs has to offer, but we’re keen to play more, and we’ll be keeping an eye on how the game develops over the coming months. When it launches in 2026, it’ll be in Early Access, with the developers being committed to taking on player feedback and offering transparent updates through the process.
Fancy joining the playtest? All you need to do is head over to Gang of Frog’s Steam page and hit the button to ‘request access’. If you’re successful, you’ll receive notification that access has been granted on the 5th December.
