‘You’re So Rude’: New York Shopper’s Cashier Complaint Backfires in the Comments

Maybe she just didn’t hear him.

A New York creator is drawing criticism after posting a video of his interaction with a grocery store cashier, claiming she appeared to be taking a bad day out on him rather than doing her job. The comment section, however, wasn’t exactly on his side, with many viewers arguing the cashier may have simply been distracted, while others felt the creator’s reaction was more problematic than the interaction itself.

Posted to TikTok by @kellywholetime, the clip opens with the shopper asking for a brown bag before quickly becoming frustrated when the cashier doesn’t immediately respond. “Did you forget you were at work?” he asks. “Can I have a brown bag? A brown bag?

As the interaction continues, the creator becomes increasingly irritated, repeating that the cashier had “forgot” she was at work. The cashier eventually hands him the bag, prompting the creator to thank her while continuing to question her demeanor.

The video’s caption reads, “Please do not take your bad day out on me when you are at WORK.” However, many viewers felt the clip itself didn’t show enough evidence that the cashier was intentionally being rude.

The Comment Section Pushes Back Against New York Creator

Many commenters felt the interaction was being blown out of proportion and argued the cashier handled the situation appropriately.” Even when she seem irritated she did a good job not responding to you that was the best for both of ya,” one person wrote.

Others felt the cashier may have simply been distracted or didn’t hear the request the first time around.”She zoned out for a few seconds. Happens to many people. As long as she gave U the bag & bagged your items, there really isn’t an issue here. It’s just unnecessary stress,” one commenter said.

She probably didn’t hear u, and u need to remember to say please,” another added. Several viewers were more direct in their assessment.”You’re so rude,” one person commented.

Others found humor in the exchange, with some saying they avoid in-person shopping altogether to escape similar interactions.”I’m very happy I do most grocery shopping online no rude cashiers,” one user wrote.

While the creator believed the cashier was taking a bad day out on him, many viewers felt the cashier’s brief pause didn’t warrant the confrontation, leaving commenters divided over who was actually being rude.
