Popular content creator Sir Yacht traveled four hours to Altoona, Pennsylvania, to try one of America’s most controversial regional pizzas, best known for swapping mozzarella for slices of American cheese.
The YouTuber and streamer shared photos from the visit on X, where he documented his first experience with Altoona-style pizza, a Pennsylvania specialty that has become infamous online for its unconventional toppings.
Altoona-style pizza was created at the Altoona Hotel in the 1960s and features thick, spongy Sicilian-style dough topped with tomato sauce, salami, green bell peppers, and slices of American cheese laid over the top after baking. The unusual recipe has made it one of the country’s most debated pizza styles.

Sharing photos from the restaurant, Sir Yacht highlighted the ingredient that’s made Altoona-style pizza so divisive.

The post quickly surpassed 5.1 million views, with many users focused on the slices of American cheese covering the pizza. While some said the topping ruined the dish, others defended Altoona-style pizza and encouraged people to try it before dismissing it.
