- Taking place before she became the sword-wielding cyborg assassin, this is an action-packed and badass story in the style of a revenge western, in which an innocent woman finds herself in the path of Imperium soldiers who slaughter her family…
«I feel like this story was a little bit destined to happen, somehow,» writer Gail Simone said of the series. «My family and I were watching Rebel Moon and really enjoying it, and I just immediately focused on Nemesis. I loved the badassery of her, but also the way she addressed grief, and recognized it in others. I just was completely smitten with her, and I actually said to my family, ‘Man, I would love to write her someday.’ Well, someone was listening because I get this message that Zack would like to talk to me about writing that exact character. Who am I to argue with fate? She’s a powerful, powerful character, she leaps off the page (and screen) and I cannot even explain how much I enjoyed playing in this sandbox.»
Rebel Moon: Nemesis will center around Nemesis, the Veldt assassin portrayed by Doona Bae in 2023’s Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire and its 2024 sequel, Rebel Moon — Chapter Two: The Scargiver. Throughout the films, audiences have seen Nemesis stand as one of the Veldt resistance’s greatest warriors, not to mention one of the biggest problems that the Imperium has ever seen on the battlefield. Since the project was revealed at WonderCon in 2024, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Rebel Moon: Nemesis, as well as any other opportunity they can find to dive back into the franchise.
Back in November, Snyder opened up about his plans for the future of the Rebel Moon franchise. Snyder pointed towards the franchise’s unique production method of filming two features simultaneously on a shared budget as being key to what that future looks like. Snyder explained that he wants to make «four or six» Rebel Moon films in total, all depending on «whether or not every time we make one of these movies we make two.» The first two entries in the Rebel Moon feature film series were produced alongside one another with roughly the same shares of a single $166 million budget.
Rebel Moon: Nemesis #1 will be on sale July 16 from Titan Comics.
