Zelda The Wind Waker: Where To Find All Killer Bees

Zelda The Wind Waker: Where To Find All Killer Bees

Windfall Island, a bustling hub in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, is home to a vibrant cast of characters, including a mischievous gang of children known as the Killer Bees. These four troublemakers are notorious for causing headaches for the island’s residents, particularly their exasperated teacher, Mrs. Marie. Link’s first encounter with them sees them attempting to intimidate him at the top of the island. Upon speaking with Mrs. Marie in her classroom, she’ll enlist Link’s help to rein in her unruly students, sending him back to their leader, Ivan, to deal with the juvenile delinquents.

Ivan, ever the instigator, will challenge Link to the Killer Bees hide-and-seek minigame. Successfully finding all four Killer Bee hiding locations will not only progress this charming side quest but also earn Link valuable rewards, including a highly sought-after Piece of Heart. Furthermore, completing this initial challenge unlocks a significant new questline, allowing Link to gift Joy Pendants to Mrs. Marie for even more substantial rewards later in the game.

Initiating the Hide-and-Seek Challenge

Your journey to becoming a temporary «babysitter» for the Killer Bees begins at the top of Windfall Island.

  • Meet the Killer Bees: As you walk up to the highest point of Windfall Island, you’ll notice four children (the Killer Bees) who immediately start following Link, seemingly trying to pick a fight.
  • Speak to Mrs. Marie: Head into the classroom, located near the top of the island. Talk to Mrs. Marie, their teacher, who will express her frustration with the children’s behavior. She’ll then instruct Link to speak with Ivan, the gang’s leader.
  • Accept the Challenge: Return to where you found the Killer Bees. Ivan will then propose a challenge: a game of hide-and-seek. Successfully finding all of them will earn Link their respect and allow him to help Mrs. Marie.
  • All Killer Bee Hiding Spots In The Wind Waker

The Killer Bees are surprisingly good at hiding, but with these detailed instructions, you’ll track them down in no time.

    Killer Bee Location #1 (Jan)

The first Killer Bee, Jan, is usually found very close to where you initiate the hide-and-seek minigame.

    • From the stairs that lead upward to the Auction House, walk through the archway just below them.
    • Once through the archway, turn immediately to your left. You will find Jan cleverly hidden behind a small bush.
    • After the brief cutscene acknowledging you found her, she’ll attempt to run away. Quickly jump down the cliff to the lower ground and use your Attack Roll (the button you use for Link’s normal sword slash, while running) to chase down and «catch» Jan.

    Killer Bee Location #2 (Jin)

After successfully catching Jan, your next target is Jin, hidden behind the Bomb Shop.

    • Head directly behind the Bomb Shop on Windfall Island.
    • Walk up to the left side of the shop building. You’ll notice a very thin ledge along the side.
    • Sidle along this narrow ledge to get to the rear of the building. Here, you will find Jin.
    • Once again, after the cutscene, Jin will try to escape. Jump down the cliff to the ground below and give chase, using your Attack Roll to catch him.

    Killer Bee Location #3 (Ivan)

The leader of the Killer Bees, Ivan, is hiding in plain sight, albeit in a tricky spot.

    • After finding the second Killer Bee behind the Bomb Shop, make your way over to the Windfall Island docks.
    • Look for a large tree near the docks. This is the same tree next to the old man who often gets alerted whenever Link walks nearby (he’s usually under it or close by).
    • Roll into this large tree by running towards it and pressing your Attack Roll button.
    • Ivan will dramatically drop down from the top of the tree. Wait for the cutscene to play out, then chase him down and catch him with your Attack Roll.

    Killer Bee Location #4 (Jun)

The final Killer Bee, Jun, is located in a somewhat secluded spot at the top of the island.

    • Head towards the top of the overhang above the King of Red Lions’ hiding spot (where your boat is docked when you first arrive).
    • This location is directly opposite the room where you can free Tingle from his cell.
    • You should see a dancing woman in front of a gravestone in this area. Jun is cleverly hidden simply behind this gravestone.
    • Simply walk behind the gravestone to find Jun. Chase him down and catch him with your Attack Roll to complete the Wind Waker Hide and Seek minigame!

Wind Waker Hide & Seek Minigame Rewards

For successfully finding and catching every single Killer Bee, The Wind Waker players will earn two immediate rewards and unlock a crucial follow-up questline that yields even greater benefits.

    • Immediate Rewards:

      • A Piece of Heart: This is a fantastic reward for your efforts, bringing you closer to increasing Link’s maximum health.
      • Continuation of Killer Bee & Mrs. Marie’s Questlines: The minigame’s completion opens up the next phase of interaction with these characters.
    • Continuing the Quest (Unlocking Joy Pendant Gifting):

      • After receiving your Piece of Heart, first talk to Mrs. Marie in her classroom.
      • Then, return and talk to Ivan, the leader of the Killer Bees.
      • Ivan will confide in Link that it’s nearly Mrs. Marie’s birthday, and she has a particular fondness for jewelry. He’ll then hint that he knows where a Joy Pendant is hidden on the island.
      • Follow Ivan’s instructions: He’s referring to the same large tree next to the Bomb Shop that Ivan himself dropped from earlier. Roll into this tree again to make the Joy Pendant fall.
      • Give the Joy Pendant to Mrs. Marie. This act of kindness, on behalf of the Killer Bees, will delight her.
      • Unlocking Further Rewards: From this point on, you can now gift Mrs. Marie additional Joy Pendants (which you can find from various sources, primarily Bokoblins) to receive special rewards at specific milestones. These highly valuable rewards include the Cabana Deed (unlocking access to the Private Oasis) and the Hero’s Charm (which displays enemy health bars).

Completing the Killer Bees hide-and-seek minigame is a charming and rewarding early-game side quest that not only provides a valuable Piece of Heart but also opens the door to acquiring some of The Wind Waker’s most useful items through continued interaction with Mrs. Marie.
