Fans might have forgotten George R.R. Martin's zombie cameo role in this post-apocalyptic television show!
In 2015, George R.R. Martin made a cameo appearance in an episode of Z Nation Season 2, portraying a zombified version of himself. In the post-apocalyptic TV series from Syfy, The Collector tells Murphy how the famous author ended up in his museum.
Martin’s zombie doppelgänger sat across a table with stacks of books that he needed to sign. The title of the novel shown was A Promise of Spring. Obviously, it’s a fake installment from his A Song of Ice and Fire series.
Later in the video, Martin was seen grabbing a book and writing his name on it without any awareness, as if the activity was a reflex from all his years signing books. The hilarious spoof was truly one of Martin’s best TV cameos.

Martin’s appearance in Z Nation did not end without some funny jab at The Winds of Winter‘s delay. The Collector asked Murphy if he could use his mind trick on the zombified Martin to make him finish his upcoming novel.
Murphy picked up the manuscript and asked if it was any good. He sees that the author has already written 800 pages. The Collector suggested typing ‘The End’ on the last page, as he didn’t care much about the story—he just wanted it to get published and kill everyone in the next book.

It’s a known fact that The Winds of Winter has been delayed for nearly 15 years now, and during the time this scene was filmed, Martin was already rushing to complete the book because Game of Thrones had already run out of source material.
Martin Would Rather Turn Into a Zombie Than Finish His Novel
Many fans believe Martin would do everything except finish The Winds of Winter. He has worked on several live-action series and produced non-Westeros projects. He has participated in the de-extinction of dire wolves and in the fight against artificial intelligence. He has also been very active in attending conventions this year.
The episode in which Martin appeared as a zombie was filmed in September 2015, as recorded on Not A Blog. We also remember that he had a Halloween deadline for The Winds of Winter, which he failed to meet. He asked for an extension until the end of the year, which he also blew up.
We can’t blame Martin, though—playing a zombie role would be a lot of fun! He definitely had a great time on set.
