One of the most common rules when driving is to make way for emergency vehicles passing through. However, some believe that some states tend to ignore this particular rule, and one of the biggest culprits could be Alabama. According to some concerned residents from Alabama, they claim that drivers tend to ignore emergency vehicles when on the road. While many justify it by saying the roads around the state are bad to the point that there’s nowhere to go, others think that it is the drivers’ fault, to the point that it is worse than in some states.

They claim they have seen ambulances stop and wait for other cars before they can turn. OP also mentions that they have seen drivers never pull over when vehicles with sirens are passing by, or even let them pass when there’s an ongoing emergency.
Unfortunately, it seems the responses to the post were not too positive, as people started saying that this has been an issue that has plagued the state for quite a while now. A few tried to mention how it is something hard to pull over, be it due to space or careless drivers. Still, some believe that Alabama drivers have become more disrespectful, showing no regard for emergency vehicles.
Alabama Residents Blame Careless Drivers
The majority of Redditors mentioned how this is something that, sadly, has given Alabama a bad reputation, especially since it tends to be true. Many even compared it to other states, saying that Alabama has gotten to the point that it has worse drivers than those in other controversial states.
“It’s worse here than in Texas.”
Yet, some believe that this has been a universal thing for a while, noting that this situation happens across the country, which is just as concerning if true.
“No, this is not an Alabama thing. This is weirdly universal now. Since 2020, people have gotten so much less concerned with being helpful or caring about other people.“
A few other residents, however, mentioned how the streets were the true culprits, as the government hasn’t done proper maintenance to allow drivers to open paths for emergency vehicles.
“Too many roads with a huge ditch right next to the road; usually there’s not a place to pull over unless you happen to be right next to a side road or parking lot to pull off.“
Regardless of the reason, people believe drivers should be more mindful of emergency vehicles, as it is a common rule that everyone should follow.
