Just another open borders Democrat

California Rep. Derek Tran was slammed by conservatives on X after he shared a post defending Haitian and Syrian immigrants affected by the recent Supreme Court ruling on Temporary Protected Status (TPS). The congressman said on Tuesday that the decision was “cruel and unacceptable” and argued that the affected immigrants are “hardworking taxpayers” who deserve to be supported.
Immigrants deserve our support: they’re hardworking taxpayers who are just trying to make it by and pursue the American Dream.

In his post, Tran criticized the court’s ruling that allows the Trump administration to move forward with ending TPS protections for hundreds of thousands of Haitians and Syrians. He said that the decision leaves many immigrants who have been living legally in the United States in a state of uncertainty.
“They see diversity and people of color as a dirty word,” the Democrat stated. “It’s just such hateful sadness to see how we as a country can move from being built by immigrants for immigrants. And what truly makes us so incredible as a nation is our diversity.”
Tran said he wanted to see the country prioritizing empathy and inclusivity. “We have to get back to a place where it’s more about love, it’s more about caring, it’s more about accepting, and it’s more about, you know, just humanity in general.”
Tran Faces Backlash From Critics
In the comments under the post, the majority of netizens seemed to have a different opinion on the court’s ruling.
“It reflects exactly who we are as Americans. Get rid of anybody that is not a legal citizen,” one person stated. Another accused Tran of supporting open-border policies, writing, “Just another open borders Democrat. He exemplifies why we need to deport them all.”
Some argued that TPS protections were never intended to be permanent. “What part of TEMPORARY don’t you understand. It’s time for them to go home. It was CRUEL and inhumane to make these people believe they could stay permanently,” one netizen wrote. Another commented, “15 years of opportunity to apply for permanent status is much more than reasonable. Exploitation and fraud against U.S. citizens is not acceptable.”
Someone else added, “The majority of these people live off our benefits and TPS is temporary. I don’t think anyone should be here and burden on the American taxpayers.”
Other commenters said they support legal immigration but opposed allowing TPS holders to remain indefinitely. “You’re right. Immigrants do deserve our support and President Trump supports them. It’s the illegals that need to be deported immediately,” one comment read.
“I support legal immigrants. I don’t support illegal immigrants. It is just that simple,” another chimed in. A third remarked, “Quit confusing immigrants with illegal aliens. It’s insulting!”
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling last week, numerous Democrats have also voiced their disapproval, saying the decision would harm families, workers, and communities. Some, like Illinois Rep. Delia Ramirez, have vowed to fight the decision through legislation.
