Mike Wing, a developer and member of the “Friends Making Apps” collective Danger Testing, has built a browser-based simulator that lets you browse, add to cart and buy games during the Steam Summer Sale without spending a single penny.
Wing explained his thinking in a post on X: “I’m addicted to buying digital games on steam and the summer sale is not helping so I made a website that gives me the same dopamine of buying games without spending actual money.”
Danger Testing release a new project every week, with previous hits including a clone of Elon Musk’s iPhone to simulate spending his fortune and a game for guessing Kanye West album eras.
Wing adds a community market as well as achievements
Wing’s site, Steam Sales Simulator, recreates the main elements of the Steam storefront, letting users create a profile, browse a replica store and build a library of purchased games using virtual currency that can be topped up with a single click.

It also features a profile leveling system, 30 unlockable achievements and a “Gifts from Gabe” feature that triggers a Counter-Strike-style case opening animation, complete with the iconic case opening sound, to reveal a mystery game.
Wing has since added a simulated Community Market to the experience as well.
It is not the first Steam-adjacent project to catch people’s attention recently. We covered a game developer who told fans not to buy their game on Steam because a sale was coming soon.
