Flittle and Espathra debuted in Pokémon Go during May 2026’s Spring Marathon event. Along with being part of Gen 9, both Pokémon are Psychic-types and inspired by ostriches. (Flittle is the egg. I think…) Down below I’ll teach you how to get Flittle and Espathra in Pokémon Go, before taking a look at shiny Flittle.

How to get Flittle in Pokémon Go
There are two different ways to catch Flittle:
- Hatch from 5km eggs — Exclusive to Spring Marathon event
- Go Pass: Spring Marathon — Rank 19 and Rank 30

Keep an eye on your Go Point daily limit. As the name suggests, you can’t earn any more Go Points once this limit is met. Thankfully, it resets every day.
As you can see, both of these methods involve quite a bit of time investment. While I dislike having to recommend any battle pass, I will admit that catching Flittle via the Go Pass: Spring Marathon is the most reliable way to obtain this Pokémon. This is because, unlike 5km eggs where it’s the luck of the draw, you’re guaranteed to earn a Flittle once you reach the correct rank. Just remember to complete activities which will earn you Go Points.
If you’re planning on obtaining Flittle via hatching, don’t forget that it only appears in 5km eggs obtained during the Spring Marathon event. There’s also three other Pokémon in that egg pool, so there’s a good chance you’ll need to hatch more than one egg before getting your Flittle. The good news, however, is you’ll receive a nice batch of candy when you do so.
I highly recommend taking the time to hatch or catch at least one Flittle before the Spring Marathon event ends since there’s no news about whether it will be entering the normal 5km egg pool at the time of writing. Due to this, it’s a good idea to nab one so you complete both Flittle and Espartha’s entries in the Pokédex.
There’s a lot to do in Pokémon Go outside of the current event! From the Go Battle League, Remote Trading, PokéStop Showcase, Routes and Max Battles. Don’t forget to catch rare Pokémon while you’re at it.
How to evolve Flittle into Espathra in Pokémon Go
You need 50 Flittle Candy to evolve Flittle into Espathra in Pokémon Go.
Since Flittle is hatched from eggs, I recommend making one as your buddy Pokémon to passively earn some extra candy when exploring the world playing Pokémon Go. If you’re catching a Flittle via Go Pass, then make sure you’re using a Pinap Berry to double the amount of Catch Candy you’ll receive.
Are Flittle and Espathra shiny in Pokémon Go?
No, shiny Flittle and shiny Espathra are not in Pokémon Go at the time of writing. This means you’ll have to wait a little longer before adding these shinies to your collection.
I have very mixed feelings on the shiny Flittle family. Starting with Flittle, it commits what I consider to be the two cardinal sins of a shiny Pokémon: being green and being boring. You see the only two things which actually change between normal and shiny Flittle are the frill of its skin skirt — going from pink to green — and its bum, which is now a dark brown compared to its usual orange. There’s a glimmer of an interesting design here, but sadly it’s far too cracked.
Shiny Espathra, however, is great! The overbearing yellow and orange tones have been erased. In their places is a cool mixture of different brown tones, which makes Espathra’s purple neck stripes and white hairdo stand out. It’s honestly such a great design that I prefer it to the original.
