The Pokemon Company has confirmed that its flagship Pokemon Center store in Tokyo will reopen next month, nearly five months after a fatal stabbing forced the location to close indefinitely.
The Ikebukuro store has remained shut since March 26, when a man fatally stabbed a female employee before turning it on himself.
Following the incident, The Pokemon Company closed the store while cooperating with the police investigation and supporting its staff.
Now, the company has announced that Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo and Pikachu Sweets by Pokemon Cafe will reopen on August 24.

“We are pleased to announce that Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo and Pikachu Sweets by Pokemon Cafe, which have been temporarily closed, will reopen on Monday, August 24, 2026,” reads the translated announcement.
“Ahead of the reopening, we have carried out partial renovations to Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo and strengthened our measures to ensure the safety of our employees. We are also working to provide an environment where customers can visit and shop with peace of mind.”
The company also confirmed that entry restrictions will be in place for a period after reopening, with details on how customers will be able to enter the store to be announced at a later date.

The updated statement also thanked fans for their patience during the closure, saying:
“We sincerely apologize for the concern and inconvenience caused during the temporary closure. We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the warm words of encouragement and support we have received from everyone.”
The company noted that the August 24 reopening date could still change depending on circumstances. It also confirmed that Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo will not host any campaigns or events taking place at other Pokemon Center stores during August, even if they are being held elsewhere in Japan.
