A woman has gone viral after mistakenly messaging a prison in the Philippines to ask if it had any rooms available, believing she was contacting a hotel in the popular tourist city of Baguio.
The mix-up involved the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s Baguio City Jail, which shared screenshots showing a woman asking whether it had any available “units” before realizing she had messaged a jail instead of a hotel.
Jail says its “fully booked” after mistaken booking inquiry
The confusion began when a woman contacted the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s Baguio City Jail asking whether it had any rooms available. Staff quickly pointed out the mistake, replying: “Ma’am, this is a jail for women.” Realizing she’d messaged the wrong place, the woman simply responded: “Sorry.”
The jail subsequently shared screenshots of the conversation on Facebook, joking, “Weekend plans secured,” and then adding the slightly more serious reminder that “the jail facilities of BJMP are not a hotel.”
In a follow-up post on the same day, the jail wrote, “Sirs and Ma’ams, we are fully booked. Please do not inquire anymore.”
Whether this was just a humorous follow-up or a genuine plea for other people on the lookout for vacation accommodation not to call in enquiring about rooms isn’t clear. Either way, no further updates have been shared, so we can only assume the message has been received.
