A mother called the police on her 13-year-old daughter, claiming that she’d stolen close to $50,000 from her to donate to influencers and streamers.
A lot of fans want to support their favorite streamers and creators in different ways. Some will watch every video or stream, commenting as they go, while others will put their hand in their pocket to donate or pay a monthly subscription fee.
In some cases, some creators have wealthy viewers who are more than happy to donate to them every so often. Streamers will often warn viewers not to donate big amounts to them, with Asmongold even threatening to ban some donors.
Over in Hong Kong, a 13-year-old girl has landed herself in hot water after her mom claimed she’d stolen close to $50,000 from her in secret.
13-year-old donated $49k to Chinese streamers
According to Headline Daily, a local newspaper in Hong Kong, the 13-year-old, who is known only as Yao, apparently stole a key to a safe from her mother’s handbag on several occasions between April and June.
As per the report, Yao took HK$380,000 – $48,500 USD – from her parents, so that she could donate it to influencers on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu.
Her parents discovered the money had gone missing on June 12, promptly reporting the theft to the police. The 13-year-old was arrested on charges of theft.

This is not the first time that someone has raided the family coffers in order to donate to their favorite streamer.
Back in November 2024, a Chinese man sent $550,000 to a female streamer, just so she would call him ‘bro’. He also stole $316,000 worth of items from his job so that he could fund the donations, too.
