Black Ops 7 Season 4 arrives on June 4, and it brings things back to basics with the new classic mode, which brings the gameplay back to CoD’s roots.
Call of Duty has been firmly boots-on-the-ground ever since Call of Duty: World War II in 2017, but then Black Ops 7 took a step towards the jetpack era by introducing wall-jumping as part of the Omnimovement system introduced in BO6.
While some enjoy the larger skill gap the advanced movement and wall-jumps provide, others want classic movement and a more simplified experience — and that’s exactly what Black Ops 7 Season 4’s new mode brings back.
Black Ops Classic mode explained
BO7’s classic mode is inspired by the older Black Ops titles, with “simplified movement and streamlined Loadouts.”

It will feature “iconic throwback maps and core modes including Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint and Kill Confirmed,” so expect to be playing on the remasters, including Raid, Express, Summit, Firing Range, Slums, and Standoff.
As for restrictions, there won’t be any Overclock abilities or Perk Combat Specialty bonuses. Scorestreaks, Perks, Lethals, Tacticals, Wildcards, Melee Weapons, and Field Upgrades will have “limited selection.”
Treyarch’s Design Director Matt Scronce took to X (formerly Twitter) to go into a bit more depth. “We wanted to get as close to a classic movement set (Black Ops 2 as a target) as we could,” he explained. “Omnimovement, Wall Jump, and Slide are restricted in Black Ops Classic along with some additional feature restrictions.”

He confirmed that the Tac Sprinter Perk would be part of the restrictions, so you’ll only be able to use the standard sprint system.

Modern Warfare 4 won’t completely abandon BO7’s highly praised matchmaking changes

Also, when someone asked if they’d keep the omnidirectional sprint system, Scronce said, “That was one we heavily debated and playtested, but ultimately wanted to stick to the spirit of classic Black Ops movement.”
This Black Ops Classic mode should help prepare you for Modern Warfare 4 in October, which won’t feature any wall-jumping or Omnimovement mechanics.
