ConcernedApe Says He's Been "Very Productive" On Haunted Chocolatier, But It'll Still Only Come Out "When It's Ready"

Add Us On Here is a fact-based summary of the story contents:

Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe has shared a new update on Haunted Chocolatier’s development and confirmed that he’s been «very productive» on it recently, even if it’s still only coming out «when it’s ready».

This might be hard to believe, but it’s nearly been five whole years since ConcernedApe, real name Eric Barone, revealed his next big game after Stardew Valley, Haunted Chocolatier. In that half a decade, we’ve not heard or seen all that much about the game, which is mostly due to Barone constantly going back to Stardew Valley and giving it even more content with new updates.

That’s left Haunted Chocolatier fans wondering if the game is ever actually going to come out, or if it’ll just keep being sidelined for Stardew Valley updates. It looks like that won’t be the case, though, as Barone has recently shared an update on the game’s development that suggests it’s getting along much better than we all assumed.

As pointed out by ResetEra user doops., ConcerenedApe recently shared a new blog post on the Haunted Chocolatier website, which is titled «I’m still working like always». In the post, Barone says that he’s been «very productive» while working on Haunted Chocolatier recently, even though he admits it’s taking «a while’ to finish the game.

Barone then says that he probably shouldn’t have announced the game so early, but that he had his reasons for doing so. It seems that Barone has heard a lot of what’s being said about the game, as he took the time to debunk some myths, including that Haunted Chocolatier will be abandoned, which he says categorically isn’t the case.

Stardew Valley and Haunted Chocolatier are separate games. It doesn’t even make sense from a technical perspective, as Haunted Chocolatier is written from scratch, it’s not the same “engine” as Stardew Valley. You can’t just copy and paste Haunted Chocolatier into Stardew Valley. — ConcernedApe

ConcernedApe also debunks the rumour that Stardew Valley updates are testing out ideas for Haunted Chocolatier, since he’s not thinking about the other game when working on one of them. He also doesn’t want to spoil any of what he’s got planned for Haunted Chocolatier by teasing it in Stardew Valley.

The big rumour that ConcernedApe debunked is that Haunted Chocolatier isn’t coming out until 2030, which is a misunderstanding caused from an interview last year. Barone was asked whether the game would be out in five years and replied, «I hope so», leading many to believe it’s incredibly far out. As he says in the blog post, though, that’s not the case, and he just doesn’t want to give a release date.

So there we have it, even if we’re no closer to learning Haunted Chocolatier’s release date, we do at least have a solid update on the game’s development, and some reassurances that we probably won’t be waiting four more years to play it ourselves.
