Obsession has officially become the number one-grossing film in summer 2026, beating the likes of Toy Story, Backrooms, and The Devil Wears Prada 2.

If you’ve not heard of Obsession yet, then you must be avoiding the internet, as this film has been everywhere recently. Directed and written by YouTuber Curry Barker, the horror film Obsession tells the story of Bear and Nikky, whose relationship takes a wild turn after Bear uses a mysterious ‘One Wish Willow’ to make Nikky fall in love with him.

Shortly after it was released, it was met with praise from fans and critics alike, reaching a score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and dominating the box office. So much so that it’s officially the top movie of the summer.

Obsession becomes the highest-grossing movie in summer 2026

After dethroning The Devil Wears Prada 2, Obsession has become the biggest movie of the summer, bringing in a whopping $220m since it released on May 15 – pretty impressive given it cost around $750,000 to make.

Of course, this is currently taking into account the fact that Toy Story 5 is still in theatres, and that’s currently made $200m, so it’s expected to surpass Obsession in a few weeks.
