Pokémon Go Mega Loppuny counters, weaknesses and moveset explained

Mega Lopunny is the Mega Evolution of the rabbit Pokémon, Lopunny, which was released as part of 2021’s Spring into Spring event in Pokémon Go.

Like all Mega Evolutions, Mega Lopunny can’t be directly caught in Pokémon Go. Instead, you need to keep defeating it in Mega Raids until you’ve collected enough Mega Lopunny Energy for its evolution. While this used to take around three Mega Raids to get the requisite amount of Mega Energy, you can frequently just do it in one, thanks to the 2022 Mega Raid rebalancing.

Below you’ll find Mega Lopunny’s counters and weaknesses to help you defeat it in Pokémon Go. You’ll need to have a Lopunny in your Pokémon storage to Mega Evolve, but don’t worry because you get the chance to catch one if you can take it down.

How to beat Mega Lopunny

When it comes to beating Mega Lopunny in Pokémon Go, start by picking your strongest Mega Pokémon of the five listed above. After that, pick the strongest of the non-Megas above. These are all fairly common for experienced players (bar Keldeo), so you should be able to pack your team out without too much effort.

If you’re missing those counters, pick your strongest Psychic-types first, followed by Fighting and Flying. While there are some strong Fairy-types (Crowned Sword Zacian, for example), these are the exceptions to the rule.

Ideally, you should be fighting Mega Lopunny alongside three Trainers with fully optimal 40 counters at the bare minimum. If you have seven other trainers in your team, then you’ll be fine.

Is shiny Lopunny in Pokémon Go?

Yes, shiny Lopunny is in Pokémon Go! Shiny Buneary and its evolution were released in April 2019 as part of the Eggstravaganza 2019 event.

As you can see below, shiny Buneary trades its yellow tufts for pink, as does shiny Lopunny! This is a pretty decent shiny, with the pink and brown complementing each other nicely.

Shiny Mega Lopunny follows suit, and looks pretty badass we might add. This may not be a particular powerful Pokémon, but its shiny is certainly striking!

Pokémon Go Mega Loppuny counters, weaknesses and moveset explained

Lopunny is a Normal-type Pokémon from Gen 4, and is the evolved form of Buneary.

Buneary is a pretty simple Pokémon, based on a rabbit in a fluffy skirt. Lopunny, meanwhile is based on a lop rabbit, if such an animal were capable of wearing a fashionable coat. Its Mega evolution trades in fashion for fighting, opting for a more aerobic ensemble…

If you want to learn more about the Buneary family, you can read their official Pokédex entries below:

  • Buneary: ‘Buneary can attack by rolling up their ears and then striking with the force created by unrolling them. This attack becomes stronger with training. If both of Buneary’s ears are rolled up, something is wrong with its body or mind. It’s a sure sign the Pokémon is in need of care.’
  • Lopunny: ‘Lopunny is constantly monitoring its surroundings. If danger approaches, this Pokémon responds with superdestructive kicks. Once hot seasons are over, Lopunny’s coat will be replaced with fur that holds a lot of insulating air in preparation for colder weather.’
  • Mega Lopunny: ‘Mega Evolution awakens its combative instincts. It has shed any fur that got in the way of its attacks. It swings its ears like whips and strikes its enemies with them. It has an intensely combative disposition.’
