Best Mega Pidgeot counters
Mega Pidgeot Mega counters
Mega Diancie is your top Mega counter, followed by Mega Mewtwo Y (Thunderbolt). Mega Manectric and Mega Rayquaza follow, trailed by Mega Tyranitar. After this, we’re looking at seriously diminishing returns.
Mega Pidgeot non-Mega counters
Shadow Therian Thundurus, White Kyurem and Regieleki are all stronger than your top Mega Evolutions in this battle (Diancie and Mewtwo).
After these you have Shadow Rhyperior, Shadow Rampardos, Shadow Raikou, Black Kyurem, and Xurkitree.
How to beat Mega Pidgeot
Fortunately, Mega Pidgeot is one of the easier Mega raids, and the bevy of powerful Electric-type Pokémon on offer to help take this down is a massive help.
Start with Mega Diancie (mostly for the boost to the rest of the team, rather than the damage you’ll be putting out), and then fill the rest of your team with your strongest Pokémon from the list above. If you’re missing these, pick your strongest Legendary or Shadow Pokémon that have Electric, Rock or Ice-type moves. Again, you’ll probably have the most luck with strong Electric-types like Electivire, failing all else.
Ideally, you should be fighting Mega Pidgeot alongside one or two Trainers with fully optimal 40 counters at the bare minimum. If you have five other trainers in your team, then you’ll be fine.

There’s a lot to do in Pokémon Go outside of the current event! From the Go Battle League, Remote Trading, PokéStop Showcase, Routes and Max Battles. Don’t forget to catch rare Pokémon while you’re at it.
Best Mega Pidgeot moveset in Pokémon Go
For Mega Pidgeot’s best moveset in Pokémon Go, we recommend Wing Attack (Legacy) as a Fast Move and Brave Bird as a Charged Move.
Pidgeot isn’t bad in PVP, so if you want to add a second move and take it for a spin, we’d recommend the Dragon-type Charged Move Twister for coverage. If PVP (or Pidgeot in PVP) isn’t your scene, don’t bother unlocking a second Charged Move.
Here are all the Fast and Charged moves Mega Pidgeot can use in Pokémon Go:
Fast Moves
- Air Slash (Flying)
- Steel Wing (Steel)
Legacy Fast Moves
- Gust (Flying)
- Wing Attack (Flying)
Charged Moves
- Aerial Ace (Flying)
- Brave Bird (Flying)
- Feather Dance (Flying)
- Heat Wave (Fire)
- Hurricane (Flying)
- Twister (Dragon)
Legacy Charged Moves
- Air Cutter (Flying)
Is shiny Pidgeot in Pokémon Go?
Yes, shiny Pidgeot is in Pokémon Go! Shiny Pidgeot was released in February 2019 as part of the Pokémon Day 2019 event.
As you can see below, shiny Pidgey, shiny Pidgeotto and shiny Pidgeot got trapped in the White House and came out covered in gold. They’re a little lacklustre, unfortunately.
Which brings us to shiny Mega Pidgeot. Unfortunately, regular Mega Pidgeot looks a lot better, thanks to its wider range of colours. The shiny losing the pink and azure really is a shame.

Everything we know about Pidgeot
Pidgeot is the final evolution in the Pidgey evolution tree from Gen 1 and began the tradition of every Pokémon generation having a three-staged, bird-inspired evolution chain.
Despite what Pidgeot’s name suggests, it resembles a bird of prey, especially a falcon, far more than it does a pigeon. This connection is furthered when you realise that the black markings around Pidgeot’s eyes are similar to the markings that often appear on depictions of the Egyptian gods, Ra and Horus. Both of these gods were often portrayed as having the head of a falcon.
The Mega Evolution for Pidgeot was introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and, unlike some Mega Evolutions, doesn’t alter Pidgeot’s typing.
Finally, Pidgeot plans a role in the very first series of the Pokémon anime series, as Pidgeotto is the second Pokémon Ash catches.
It would later evolve in the episode ‘Pallet Party Panic’ in an effort to protect Ash from the Fearow, which he threw a rock at when it was a Spearow in the very first episode of the anime. The episode ends with Ash letting Pidgeot free, so that it can keep a flock of Pidgey and Pidgeotto, with the promise that he will someday return for it.
Ash is yet to follow through on this promise.
If you want to learn more about the Pidgey family, you can read their official Pokédex entries below:
- Pidgey: ‘Very docile. If attacked, it will often kick up sand to protect itself rather than fight back.’
- Pidgeotto: ‘This Pokémon is full of vitality. It constantly flies around its large territory in search of prey.’
- Pidgeot: ‘This Pokémon flies at Mach 2 speed, seeking prey. Its large talons are feared as wicked weapons.’
- Mega Pidgeot: ‘With its muscular strength now greatly increased, it can fly continuously for two weeks without resting.’

Best of luck battling Mega Pidgeot in Pokémon Go!
