A dog that had been missing for two months after escaping from its home in Florida was found in New York, and he’d been given a new name.

For most dog owners, the absolute nightmare scenario is that your fluffy sidekick decides to run off and goes missing for a short while. Even if they’re missing for 10 minutes, it can feel like hours, and hours end up feeling like days.

Over in the United States, one dog – Apollo – went missing from his family’s home in Ocala, Florida back in April. The 13-year-old Shih Tzu snuck out through a gate in his owner’s garden, leading to a massive search to try and bring him home.

After two months of searching, Apollo was finally located, but he’d long left the Sunshine State. Instead, he’d been found all the way up in New York, and had undergone a makeover to boot.

That’s right, according to FOX 13, Apollo had travelled more than 1000 miles from his home to end up in the Big Apple.

His owners, The Joseys, received a call from an animal shelter on Long Island, after they’d scanned Apollo’s microchip. However, Apollo had been left with the shelter with a name tag reading ‘Yuri’, which created a further bit of confusion for everyone involved.

“We definitely kept the faith, held out hope. We still got his dog food, we still got his toys, we’ve still got all his stuff. So we knew Apollo was gonna come home. It was just a matter of when,” Vera Josey said.

Vera’s husband, Nick, travelled up to New York to reunite with Apollo, who now has a baby brother to deal with at home, as the Josey’s have had a child since his disappearance.
