FIFA has opened an investigation after American streamer IShowSpeed was allegedly subjected to racist abuse during Argentina’s 3-2 victory over Cape Verde at the FIFA Club World Cup.
The incident took place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on July 3, where IShowSpeed was livestreaming from the stands while wearing a Cape Verde jersey. Video from the stream appears to show the influencer confronting an Argentina supporter after alleged racist remarks were directed at him.
The clip quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread attention and prompting calls for FIFA to respond. One clip on Reddit’s LivestreamFail community went viral, with the post alleging an Argentina fan shouted a racist slur, followed by “go home” at the streamer.

FIFA says investigation was launched immediately
In a statement shared by BBC, football’s governing body confirmed it had begun looking into the incident shortly after becoming aware of it.
“FIFA has been made aware of an incident which allegedly occurred at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on 3 July and immediately initiated an investigation. The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect.”
“It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world and anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game.”
IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., has become one of the tournament’s highest-profile online personalities, livestreaming matches throughout the competition. He currently has more than 57 million YouTube subscribers and 53 million TikTok followers.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino and former football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic have both appeared on his broadcasts during the tournament. FIFA has not announced whether any disciplinary action will be taken while its investigation remains ongoing.
