The viral “Batman of Lagos” in Mexico may have already found his own Robin, Knightwing, and Batgirl after police in Jalisco revealed new details about the vigilante-style attacks.

The mysterious figure became a viral talking point in June after several alleged motorcycle thieves were found beaten and taped or tied to poles in Lagos de Moreno, Mexico.

The scenes were quickly attributed online to an anonymous vigilante dubbed the “Batman of Lagos de Moreno,” with social media users comparing the case to a real-life comic book crimefighter.

However, authorities are now investigating whether the attacks were carried out by one person, an organized group of citizens, or another structure operating outside the law. And Batmobiles aren’t off the table, either.

Police think “Batman of Lagos” has his own Robin and Batmobile

According to Factor Coahuila, Jalisco Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández confirmed the cases remain under investigation and said officials have indications that at least two vehicles may have been used by those involved in the assaults.

Based on early witness accounts, Hernández said those responsible could be residents of Lagos de Moreno itself. However, victims and witnesses were unable to fully identify the attackers because, just like the Dark Knight, acted with their faces covered.

Police have also reinforced patrols in Lagos de Moreno as part of the effort to locate those responsible and prevent further incidents.

Authorities warn “Batman of Lagos” can’t take justice into his own hands

While the people left tied to poles were accused by locals of motorcycle theft, Jalisco authorities stressed that no one can assume the role of law enforcement or deliver justice themselves.

The State Prosecutor’s Office has opened several investigation files related to illegal deprivation of liberty and injuries. Authorities are treating the people who were attacked as victims unless a court determines they are responsible for any crime.

At least five cases have reportedly been documented in June, all following a similar pattern. Victims were found beaten, restrained with tape or rope, and tied to poles in different parts of the city, with some left with messages written on their face or body.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine whether Lagos’ viral “Batman” is a single vigilante or if he has his own version of Robin helping from the shadows.
