Modern Warfare 4 officially arrives in October, and its multiplayer carries over highly praised features from the last few entries.
Infinity Ward’s last title, Modern Warfare 2 (2022), received a ton of criticism for not including classic features like the normal Perk system, red dots on minimaps, map voting, and Prestige.
Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 have gradually added these features back, so there were concerns that they’d be gone again with Modern Warfare 4. As confirmed at a preview event attended by CharlieIntel, that won’t be the case.
MW4 brings back fan-favorite multiplayer features
MW4 builds on what the last few entries have brought back, featuring classic Prestige, pick-three Perk system (including Ninja), red dots on minimaps, map voting, and the theater mode. So, this year’s CoD shouldn’t feel like a major step away from the last few years’ titles.
Movement will also be faster than it was in Modern Warfare 2, including a faster mantle system. However, Black Ops’ Omnimovement won’t be present, so you won’t be able to sprint and slide in any direction. Infinity Ward said, “It’s okay for Modern Warfare to be different.”

Then there’s matchmaking. Ever since 2019’s Modern Warfare, skill-based matchmaking has been one of the biggest talking points. To address that, Treyarch introduced ‘Open Matchmaking’ with Black Ops 7, with “minimal skill consideration,” and it’s been a big hit.
Infinity Ward said matchmaking will “not revert back to pre-Black Ops 7,” so we can expect something similar to BO7’s Open Matchmaking playlist. They want to be transparent about it, so we’ll hear more about how this will work in the run-up to its October 23 launch.

Modern Warfare 4 is a “complete copy” of MW2 (2022) according to leak
