A viral pizza shop in New York has explained why their cheese pizza costs $40, and it’s not because they want to get rich.
Over the last few years, there have been plenty of restaurants that have taken typically low-cost meals and put a boujee spin on them. These twists grab the attention of the internet, and it has led to some backlash, as well as plenty of interest in trying the new items.
In the case of Ceres Pizza in New York, they’ve grabbed headlines because of the cost of their pizza. A 20-inch cheese pizza will set you back $40, while a 20-inch version of their Nduja pizza will cost you $68. It’s not cheap at all.
The pizza joint was also featured with Adam Richman on the First We Feast YouTube channel, where they defended the high cost of the food. However, it’s not because they’ve got some get-rich-quick scheme in place.
Ceres Pizza owner defends $40 cheese pizza
Speaking to the former Man vs Food host, Ceres’ owner Jacob Serebnick said: “We definitely did get blowback and we still go get blowback regarding the pricing. We just make a 20-inch pizza made of the best ingredients that we can possibly get and it comes at a cost, an extreme cost to us.
“Not just in terms of money, but in time, wrangling all of these purveyors. I think there is this misconception that people think that our grand scheme to get rich was to sell $40 cheese pizzas.
“If the plan was to get rich, we would not have opened a pizza shop. We decided not to compromise on the quality of the product, and I think it was the best decision we ever made.”
