Rapper Fetty Wap and his team have sent flowers to a school principal in Florida who was placed on administrative leave because of his lyrics.
At the end of May, it was announced that a school principal in St. Johns County, Florida had been placed on administrative leave with pay following an investigation into alleged “inappropriate conduct”.
It has been revealed that the principal, since named as Katie O’Connell of Trout Creek Academy, was suspended after a lyric from rapper Fetty Wap’s song ‘Trap Queen’ was printed in the school’s yearbook, framed as a quote from her.
Principal says book was altered before publishing
O’Connell denies writing or approving the quote, which read “‘Everybody hating, we just call them fans though!’ – Mrs. O’Connell”. The principal also stated that she and her assistant principal both approved the final proof of the yearbook, which did not include the quote, suggesting someone else is responsible for its inclusion.
According to People, O’Connell has said that the controversy has disrupted her life hugely. “I’ve been in school leadership for 18 years. And the way they’ve dismissed me has destroyed it,” she said. “They’ve ruined that possibility for me, and they’ve so disparaged my reputation.”
After learning about the case, Fetty Wap’s team sent the principal a bouquet of flowers, some balloons, and a note that read: “Principal O’Connell, I hope these flowers lift up your spirit, wishing you the best. God bless from Fetty Wap and the team.”

“All of these haters are still on it and I’m just living in their heads. I have no idea why,” said O’Connell, discussing the relatability of the lyric. “I’ll just listen to it every morning and keep applying for jobs and Fetty will get me through it.”
