The premiere of the new Minions & Monsters movie has gone viral for including a song contest where singers performed beloved songs in ‘Minionese,’ including Bohemian Rhapsody.
If you’ve ever seen a Despicable Me movie, one of the many spin-offs, or even just been online in the last decade or so, chances are you’ve come across Minions. These adorable yellow guys are the clumsy henchmen of Gru, who are always getting into mischief.
They speak in a made-up language called Minionese, which splices together bits of real languages like English, French, and Spanish, while sprinkling in some fake words for good measure.
Now, to celebrate the arrival of Minions & Monsters, some brave singers performed a number of hit songs in Minionese as part of a contest at the premiere.

As shown in a number of clips circulating on X, four social media stars who all have hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram took to the stage to battle it out. All four have previously shared clips of them speaking or singing in Minionese.
The first performer, TikToker Ella Mott, sang Queen’s now iconic Bohemian Rhapsody, while ‘Sophy’ did a rendition of Versace on the Floor by Bruno Mars.

Faith Elizabeth went for a more recent pick with Olivia Rodrigo’s Drop Dead, which kept the unmistakable melody but replaced all the lyrics with gibberish.
But the winner, Rynia Kando, went a little more old-school by Minionifying The Jackson 5’s I’ll Be There from 1970. The crowd was so impressed that she scooped first prize and a golden banana trophy, and she was then congratulated by the cast of the movie, including Jeff Bridges and Jessie Eisenberg.
