The Los Angeles Dodgers cracked down on resellers who took over their One Piece giveaway night, with free Luffy cards being resold for hundreds of dollars.
Over the last few years, there have been plenty of crossovers between anime and pop culture, especially when it comes to collectibles and trading cards. The likes of McDonald’s have included free Pokemon cards with certain meals, while a few baseball teams have focused on other series.
That includes the MLB’s LA Dodgers, who have had some fun with VTubers from HoloLive, as well as a Yoshi-themed bobblehead for their own Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and One Piece as well.
On July 2, they teamed up with One Piece again, giving away Monkey D Luffy Dodgers-themed cards, as well as his iconic straw hat.

One Piece Dodgers giveaway items reselling for thousands
While the cards and hats were free to pick up if you were attending the game, resellers and scalpers dominated things, picking up as many as they could.
This led to Dodgers security kicking out attendees who were offering money to buy the items from those fans who were unaware of what they’d received.
One video on social media showed security arresting a man who tried to re-enter the stadium after being kicked out too.

Twitch star Ludwig was also in attendance, claiming he’d seen fans offering $100 to others for the items.
“The scalpers in the stadium are nuts; they’re honing in on old people like drones offering $100 per card,” he posted on X. “eBay listing them at $600.”

Some eBay listings have reached well over $1000 already, with some sellers asking for $2000 for both the card and the straw hat.

A handful have provided proof that they were at the game, while others have stated that they would be attending. There is no proof from some of those who advertised a presale on both items.
The team also had special One Piece animations during the game for their lineup graphics, as well as Luffy throwing out the first pitch. Yet, they’re still on their quest for a World Series, not the actual One Piece.
